(More customer reviews)JK Adams makes fine wooden cutting boards. With the proper care, these boards perform well and provide a great cutting surface.
However, this board should not be called a "cutting board." Really it is a "carving board." The side shown in the picture has a large groove around the edge. This is great for cutting cooked meat and the like, but it takes away from the cutting area. The reverse side has an imprint for a roast or poultry. Both sides are good for carving meat, but neither provides a nice surface for cutting and chopping.

This two-sided carving/serving board is a piece of art as well as a multifunctional kitchen tool. Its beautiful, solid Vermont maple is pressure-bonded with a high-strength, water-resistant adhesive to protect the wood from moisture, and it also has a natural oil finish. One side of the board has a wedge to grip the poultry or meat while you carve and a deep gravy groove to catch the precious juices. I've been very satisfied with the board for carving fowl and roasts; the raised pyramid grid center section holds meats in place without running risk of damage to my good knives. The groove around the edge to catch drippings seems to be big enough for even large roasts.

(More customer reviews)I bought this the year I hosted my first Thanksgiving in 2000, and we have used it every year since then. It also gets regular use for parties and other holidays for roasts, hams, and appetizers. I wash it with soap and water and oil it with olive oil occasionally, and it shows no sign of warping. The surface is completely covered in hash marks from all the carving, but since I never use this board for raw meat, I am not concerned about bacteria.
The size makes it difficult to store, but the big size is also a big plus when you are carving a large bird or a spiral ham. For the price, it has held up extremely well.

His criteria for a new board included: reasonable size (so he could bring it to the table) and a trough and well to catch meat juices. This board has those attributes, plus it is well made with small rubber feet to hold it secure while carving and handles (carved into the underside of the board) so it can be carried easily to where ever you like. I looked at every carving board on Amazon and on many other websites; many were nice, but none had ALL of the features I've mentioned -- plus -- a very reasonable price! I would not hesitate to recommend this board. By the way, there is NO ONE on the web that has the selection of carving boards you find on Amazon -- thanks, Amazon!

(More customer reviews)I bought this tray to use for Thanksgiving, but also wanted something I could use more than once a year. This tray fit the bill for me. My Thanksgiving turkeys are around 20 lbs. so there's a little overhang, but as it said it works. It caught all the drippings just fine, because it's made to actually work! It has a generously deep well not like some of those other boards out there that the well fills up instantly because they are too shallow. The wood is really nice, I sealed it with mineral oil as soon as I received it, and it's held up fine for over a year now and I picture myself passing it down to my children as one of those rock solid, last forever type of pieces.
By the way, I did a lot of research before purchasing. I looked into the one with the metal spokes built in to hold the meat in place, but it was recommended to me to steer away from that style as its much harder to keep sanitary. I'm extremely happy with this choice!

(More customer reviews)Great little board, but be sure to oil it with mineral oil when you first get it. The way the board absorbed the oil, I don't think it was oiled during the manufacturing process. It's critical to oil your wooden utensils and cutting boards to prevent cracking, make clean-up easier, and maximize life. Plus if the pores are filled with mineral oil, they won't fill with juices from meats, etc.
After oiling it was a little rough, but a light sanding took care of the problem.
The well did a fine job of trapping juices from roasted pork tenderloin. No more messy countertops!

(More customer reviews)This is a very nicely made cutting board and a great value at the price. BUT, I think it is a bit too big for use as an everyday board. I purchased both this board and the medium Mundial cutting board. They are identical except for the size. After having had them for a month or so, I have found that I use the medium board nearly everyday, while this board is a bit too large and heavy for use as an everyday cutting board. Rather, it is the board you break out for those big turkeys and hams on Thanksgiving & Christmas.
The bottom line is if you are looking for one everyday cutting board, I highly recommend the medium version of this board instead of this one. Or, do like I did & get both and have this one "on standby" for large roasts and poultry.

Snow River Reversible Carving Board with Juice Groove Review

(More customer reviews)I was in desperate need of a new carving board and I only use wood. After careful research and reviewing other reviews; I purchased this board. The size is excellent and it is reversible; however there is no way to keep the board intact without it sliding. As I am a professional cook; I did what I normally do at work; I put a wet rag under it to hold it intact. Works well; until you remove the rag and let the board dry and "breathe." Within a few hours the board cracked and split on the backside. It warped. Considering the price; I would not recommend it. I still use it; but have had to make adjustments; such as using a dry rag; but it is warped. Very disappointed.

This is the only cutting board an average home cook should need. it is reversable (though only one side has groove). It is large enough to use it for every day cutting and even serving a roast on your table, yet still managable in the sink to wash.
The board I received is smooth and straight. It is easily worth two or three times the price amazon.com sells them for.
