(More customer reviews)JK Adams makes fine wooden cutting boards. With the proper care, these boards perform well and provide a great cutting surface.
However, this board should not be called a "cutting board." Really it is a "carving board." The side shown in the picture has a large groove around the edge. This is great for cutting cooked meat and the like, but it takes away from the cutting area. The reverse side has an imprint for a roast or poultry. Both sides are good for carving meat, but neither provides a nice surface for cutting and chopping.

I've been very satisfied with the board for carving fowl and roasts; the raised pyramid grid center section holds meats in place without running risk of damage to my good knives. The groove around the edge to catch drippings seems to be big enough for even large roasts.

(More customer reviews)I bought this the year I hosted my first Thanksgiving in 2000, and we have used it every year since then. It also gets regular use for parties and other holidays for roasts, hams, and appetizers. I wash it with soap and water and oil it with olive oil occasionally, and it shows no sign of warping. The surface is completely covered in hash marks from all the carving, but since I never use this board for raw meat, I am not concerned about bacteria.
The size makes it difficult to store, but the big size is also a big plus when you are carving a large bird or a spiral ham. For the price, it has held up extremely well.

His criteria for a new board included: reasonable size (so he could bring it to the table) and a trough and well to catch meat juices. This board has those attributes, plus it is well made with small rubber feet to hold it secure while carving and handles (carved into the underside of the board) so it can be carried easily to where ever you like. I looked at every carving board on Amazon and on many other websites; many were nice, but none had ALL of the features I've mentioned -- plus -- a very reasonable price! I would not hesitate to recommend this board. By the way, there is NO ONE on the web that has the selection of carving boards you find on Amazon -- thanks, Amazon!

I'm able to pour them into the finished product and save all the good vitamins and minerals. It doesn't stain and the hard finish has yet to get a cut anywhere on it. I've had it for well over a year so any defects would have shown up by now. You can't go wrong with this one.

(More customer reviews)I bought this tray to use for Thanksgiving, but also wanted something I could use more than once a year. This tray fit the bill for me. My Thanksgiving turkeys are around 20 lbs. so there's a little overhang, but as it said it works. It caught all the drippings just fine, because it's made to actually work! It has a generously deep well not like some of those other boards out there that the well fills up instantly because they are too shallow. The wood is really nice, I sealed it with mineral oil as soon as I received it, and it's held up fine for over a year now and I picture myself passing it down to my children as one of those rock solid, last forever type of pieces.
By the way, I did a lot of research before purchasing. I looked into the one with the metal spokes built in to hold the meat in place, but it was recommended to me to steer away from that style as its much harder to keep sanitary. I'm extremely happy with this choice!

Here's the bad news.
You cannot see in the photo but the board has four very small pegs
on each corner. These "grips" create a thin space between the board and the counter.
Although the board does not slip, it causes the board to "bounce
back" after each chop because it is not flush with the counter.
I would not recommend the product for this reason.

I hit it with 150 grit sandpaper then followed with 220 grit to get it to the smoothness that I had expected. Kind of a pain if you know what I mean.

John Boos 23.75x17.25x1.25 Reversible Maple Countertop Board with Gravy Groove Review

(More customer reviews)I made the mistake in ordering this board with the "Quickness" when I found it at such a good deal plus free shipping! And it didn't help that the web site stated there was only One Left! I could get it before Christmas. And that it matched my measurements exactly the way I wanted it to lay on my counter top. But...When a rectangle is measured it can be measured in different ways. So My LxW was 23.75" Long (Holding your arms open sideways)and x 17.25" (From edge of counter to back splash).
In Reality. The actual measurements of this Beautiful Board are:
17.25" Long (Holding your arms open sideways).
And 23.75" (From front of counter to back splash. Or one could say deep, or depth). But in this case it's LENGTH.
Anyway it will still fit, but it doesn't look as good as it could.
I will be removing the 2 Lips from the ends of the board and pick up some maple and cut a couple pieces 23.75" long, and attach them.
And the 2pcs that I removed, I will just make a 17.25" square board.
Remember that saying...."Measure Twice Cut Once" :)

(More customer reviews)Great little board, but be sure to oil it with mineral oil when you first get it. The way the board absorbed the oil, I don't think it was oiled during the manufacturing process. It's critical to oil your wooden utensils and cutting boards to prevent cracking, make clean-up easier, and maximize life. Plus if the pores are filled with mineral oil, they won't fill with juices from meats, etc.
After oiling it was a little rough, but a light sanding took care of the problem.
The well did a fine job of trapping juices from roasted pork tenderloin. No more messy countertops!

1/21/10 update- My mother has been using this cutting board for a month now. She still loves it. She likes that meat juice collects in the board so that it can easily be saved for broth. It doesn't move on the countertop and the roasts/chickens stay put on the board. She has not got the dexterity she used to have. This has made her cooking safer and more enjoyable.

End Grain Cutting Board with Juice Well Review

(More customer reviews)Wanted a end-grain board to protect my good knives but wasn't ready to purchase a BoardSmith. At $30 shipped, this is indeed a bargain. It's sturdy and a good size that can by used on either side. However, the side without the groove had some serious gaps that I had to fill (used Titebond III glue, good stuff). Once I had those all plugged up, I had to sand the board. The surfaces were reasonably smooth but the edges and, in particular, the grooves were quite rough. Then I had to treat it with mineral oil, which it drank up with gusto (true of any end-grain board). After all that, it was ready to go and is just fine. Cosmetically, it only rates 2 stars because the worker did a mediocre job of assembling the blocks in a nice pattern. But functionally it's fine after all the prep work. Eventually, I'll pay 3 times as much and get a BoardSmith cutting board but this works fine for now.

(More customer reviews)After using this cutting board for a while, I realized how puny looking my old cutting board was. This thing is huge. I can dice 4 large onions and still have room for cutting other vegetables.
It is extremely dense and sturdy feeling, despite being 1/2" thin. The description says it's 2.5 lbs. -- it's not. It has got to be about 5 lbs or so.
The only downside is that while it is dishwashable, it doesn't fit!! It's too large to fit in my dishwasher. I would have to remove the top drawer, and then put it in sideways to fit.
