(More customer reviews)I do love this glass. It has a good weight, it is the right size, and it feels so elegant. The glass is a very comfortable shape, and the rim of the glass is not overly thick (though I did get one in my set that has a thicker rim than the others), which is something that is very important to me. Washing these glasses is very simple, as I said, the shape of this glass is very nice. They go through the dish washer beautifully too.
The one thing that I am not sure about is wether this is actually etched glass. Looking at the etching, it looks as if it may be actually adhered to the outer surface of the glass...kindof like corelle ware. If you look carefully, it looks as if the etching has an odd uniformity to it, remaniscant of a dot matrix printer, and a certain sheen very unlike frosted glass. The etching seems to be raised, not "etched" into the glass.
Now, I do not know much about glass etching, but as far as I know, it is achieved through an acid washing or abrassive (think something a bit like sand blasting) process in which the areas that are actually etched out of the glass are actually going to be slightly sunk INTO (recessed into the surface of) the glass, and not on top of it, and due to the nature of such a process, would not have any noticable patern difference in the surface of the etched areas (think frosted glass).
Therefore, I think that calling this product etched glass is a bit misleading. However, ignoring the technicality, this is an elegant glass, sturdy enough for daily use.
