I use cutting boards of varying sizes every single day--every single meal, for veggie prep. Proteak makes some lovely options which are FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified organic teak.
The cutting board itself is beautiful. I love the handle and find myself reaching for it every day. It covers the right half of my stove so if I am doing food prep (raw or cooked) it makes for a handy work space. When I'm done, I just rinse under warm water and go over it with a brush, dry it off and I'm ready for next time.

Chef'n FreshForce Citrus Juicer, Lime Review

Chef'n FreshForce Citrus Juicer, Lime
Average Reviews:

This Chef'n Juicer is the best Juicer I've owned.
I enjoy my Gin (Sapphire) and Tonics and like to press 1/2 lime into a drink (Fever-Tree Tonic Water highly recommended too), as well as fresh lime juice in a margarita. I put my presses to the test!
I've have owned a bunch of the green or yellow single hinged juicers which have served well but don't last very long, either pop a rivet or the hinge breaks. They also gum up with repeated use and are difficult to clean (I think maybe the wax on the fruit??).
This juicer uses a mechanical advantage for pressing which requires much less pressure and gets most juice in one press.
The press surfaces are also more durable and easier to clean.
Own this juicer and you will not be happy using the old style.
Only con I might list is it only comes in one size (big emough for a good sized lemon) but even with the smaller limes I get a good press.

From renowned kitchen tool maker, Chef'n, the FreshForce Citrus Juicer makes short, easy work of pressing juice from halved lemons and limes. Unlike other juicers, the FreshForce Citrus Juicer has an extra gear mechanism that increases juicing power and minimizes hand strain. An easy-to-squeeze handle makes it comfortable to use and the basket makes it easy to catch pulp and pits. The lime-colored finish makes the tool easy to spot in drawers and when the work is done, it's dishwasher safe for easy cleaning.

Jack LaLanne JLPJB Power Juicer Juicing Machine Review

Jack LaLanne JLPJB Power Juicer Juicing Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Overall I think it's a great juicer, particularly for the budget conscious novice; the price is appealing and the quality is good. There is no need to buy disposable filters and the main source of labor lies in washing which is initially something to get used to. The amount of juice it extracts is good as far as I can tell, though the pulp is not perfectly dry*, but the juice is thick and not clear, so if you want very clear juice perhaps this juicer isn't for you.
*Now for my explanation on the pulp. Apples for example, frequently result in very thin slices being discarded into the pulp collector. That doesn't thrill me. Also in general, despite the pulp being dry, I discover on dismantling the juicer there's a good amount of wet juicy pulp that's stuck to the inside (think: apple sauce). The TV demonstration's somewhat misleading on their claim of this juicer's superiority in extracting juice completely from fruits and vegies.
As mentioned by others, the parts are plastic, so take care in washing well. For me the green side (scour pad) of the sponge will remove a great deal of the staining, especially if you clean it right after using, but be gentle, because you don't want to scratch it up and create more crevices for stains to seep.
By the way, you do still need to cut the fruit, like large apples and oranges which cannot be fed into the chute. But of course, the preparation process is lessened as peeling and de-seeding is an optional step. Be careful when you use this juicer on harder veggies like beets, though. The way I get around this is by cutting them down and alternating with another type of veg/fruit. Fortunately I haven't had any problems by following the suggestions outlined by the LaLannes, but I can definitely sense there's a limit.
REGULAR or DELUXE?
Soon after purchasing my regular model I found the deluxe at the local wharehouse store for the same price. I bought that one, too, and compared. I discovered there is absolutely no difference in the machine itself. The deluxe simply comes with extras, which boils down to figuring out whether you find the price difference (if there is any) worth paying for the following:
- an extra blade
- a brush (very useful in cleaning the strainer, but a very generic kitchen tool)
- large measurement cup (again, useful, but generic and superfluous if you juice directly into your glass)
- juicer platform and overflow platform (these would be better if they latched onto each other so there's some stability and utility)
- an extra blade-remover
- a bonus book entitled TOTAL JUICING

Enjoy the superior flavor and nutrition of freshly juiced fruits and vegetables with this countertop juicing machine. Simple to operate, the whisper-quiet unit features an extra-large feeder chute that accommodates even large chunks or entire pieces of fruit or vegetables--which means less chopping beforehand. Just place a glass or small pitcher under the spout, insert the desired produce, and gently press down using the included pusher. The juicer's powerful 3,600-RPM motor, patented extraction technology, and surgical-quality stainless-steel blade quickly and effortlessly extract the juices from a variety of foods--from soft melon and juicy pineapple to thick-skinned apples, cucumbers, carrots, and more. In addition, its super-sized, removable pulp collector captures the maximum amount of bitter pulp, seeds, and skin to yield smooth, delicious juice. Additional highlights include handsome white housing that wipes easily clean; dishwasher-safe removable parts; and an included recipe/instruction booklet. The juicer measures approximately 15-1/2 by 12 by 16 inches.

Tribest Citrus Juicer Review

I usually like to 'live' with a product for awhile before posting any sort of review. We've been using our Tribest Citrus Juicer for about 3 months now. There really is not much to say other than it does exactly what I expected a citrus juicer to do... it reams citrus fruits very fast, very efficiently, very safe and easy to use, a really powerful motor, simple quick clean-up and it looks good. Excellent plastics materials used in construction and its a simple, smart design. It might be a little more expensive than many of the other citrus juicers currently in the marketplace but you can be sure you won't be disappointed. When searching for a citrus juicer I read quite a few reviews and it seems weak motors were the biggest single complaint with most of these electric citrus juicers. However I gathered from the reviews about this Tribest Citrus Juicer that a weak motor would definitely NOT be an issue and then when I considered the relatively small price difference for a juicer with a more powerful and reliable motor it really was a no-brainer decision for me. So today, after 3 months of everyday use (sometimes twice a day) squeezing 4-5 oranges and a grapefruit at a time (enough juice for two) I can comfortably come forward and recommend this juicer as a durable, quality kitchen appliance that looks good enough to leave out on the counter and you wouldn't mind using it everyday.

I liked these glasses. Of the two, one broke as a result of my own carelessness when washing the glass. The other broke when I added ice cubes to the glass before adding liquid. When I added the cubes the double-wall glass bottom virtually exploded. I think they work well and do what they're supposed to do but consider yourself warned -- add at least half a glassful of the liquid you'll be drinking BEFORE adding ice cubes.

Jack Lalanne's JLSS Power Juicer Deluxe Stainless-Steel Electric Juicer Review

Jack Lalanne's JLSS Power Juicer Deluxe Stainless-Steel Electric Juicer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off, let me admit to the fact that I've never owned any kind of juicer before, this one is the first.
We were given the Jack LaLanne Stainless Juicer as a gift from someone who already had one and loved it. I had modestly high hopes for it, not being a big powered-kitchen-gadget fan; but we also have been trying to improve our diets due and lose some weight, so the gift was rather timely to meet that end. I honestly knew nothing about this product until I pulled it out of the box at home. We'd gone to the local big-box store and bought a bunch of stuff to put in the machine and try it out: Kiwis, mangoes, carrots, tomatoes, apples, oranges, pears, ginger root, celery and pineapple.
The Good:
Out of the box I got the impression that this was a sturdy product. All of the parts are fairly simple, that means less stuff to break or clean to me. It assembled in a snap, I didn't even look at the directions (typical guy...I know). Upon firing up the machine, I was impressed with how quiet it was. A modest hum and vibration was all that I could hear. Fruit being put in the device emits a sound reminiscent of a very quiet band or table saw. By the time I've written this, all of the above products have passed through the juicer and released some juice without trouble, the "hard" bits were cut off or out (stems, mango pits, etc...) and the juicer had no difficulty turning any of them into pulp. Incidentally, one of my favorite things to put in the juicer so far is simply a couple of carrots and apples. Tastes good, but probably gives me an orange tongue... There is also a stopper on the drain spout that allows you to stop the flow of juice while you trade out whatever it is you are using to catch the juice.
Cleanup was no problem. Dumped the pulp bucket, cleaned the gunk out of the lid (some pulp sticks to the upper lid) with my hand and rinsed it off with soapy water. The blade was easy to clean, but the screen takes a little more effort, it is fairly delicate. I was able to clean it no problem with a lightweight scrubbing pad. The lower portion and base clean up easily as well.
What produce seems to do well:
Apples do very well. Lots of juice and the pulp is pretty dry.
Carrots: Same as apples.
Celery: Pretty good job here too. Careful though, celery has a pretty strong taste; it'll overpower a lot of other flavors.
Oranges: Pretty good. I've noticed that it doesn't seem to get as much juice out of these as it could, the pulp can be pretty wet sometimes.
Kiwis: Not so good. The kiwis are very pulpy and tend to block the undersized drain hole from the catch basin. They taste good though...
Pineapple: Lots of juice, not as much as you might think though. Due to the very fibrous nature of pineapple I found I had to stop the juicer after half a pineapple and clean the screen. The fibers were getting caught in it, unbalancing and blocking it. It tends to gum up the cutting blade as well.
Mango: Same as kiwis. Tastes good, but the pulp gums up the works.
Tomatoes: Great! Lots of juice, and with the re-addition of some of the pulp makes a great tomato soup. Again, due to the soft pulpy nature of tomatoes, it tends to plug things up.
Pears: If you pick the firmer varieties, they go through just like apples.
Ginger root: We'd had a glass of ginger/orange juice somewhere and wanted to re-create it, it was pretty good. Ginger doesn't have a high water content so you need to run it through first and then the wetter produce behind it to pull the ginger flavor out with it. Pretty strong flavor, don't need as much as you think. The Bad and Ugly:
There are several design issues that this juicer has that are serious drawbacks to me. The drain hole is one of the big ones, as well as the fit and finish of some of the parts.
The drain hole simply isn't large enough. It plugs up way too easily no matter what produce is run through the machine in any sufficient amount to create more than two or three tall glasses of juice. This results in juice leaking down the motorized base and making a pretty substantial mess, usually because you are halfway through running something through the machine and the juice has been backing up for a bit. I think it said somewhere in the directions that some of this is "normal", I gotta raise the BS flag...I call it bad design. The directions say not to run really ripe fruit through the machine (which could lead to leakage problems); well, what are you supposed to use, hard and sour unripe fruit? Even chasing something "pulpy" like kiwi through the machine with something hard like apple doesn't seem to clear the machine out at all. The inability to use ripe fruit seems to contradict the reason you'd want the juice to begin with. This is by far one of the more frustrating issues with this juicer, it should not get plugged up so easily.
A design issue is the catch basin and lid; the catch basin does not line up with the lid very well and can shift if you are juicing a lot of things consecutively, you'll wind up with pulp on your counter if you don't keep an eye on it. There is no solid mechanical connection between the two. The lid also has a couple of crannies in it that pulp seems to migrate towards that are difficult to clean by hand, those should be eliminated in a design update.
Another design issue: The Chrome Plated Plastic. Not all of the parts of the device that shines is "stainless [steel]". I checked the directions front to back as well as the warranty information, the juicer is "dishwasher safe" (except the base), so one could reasonably expect to throw the parts in the dishwasher and have no ill effects. WRONG. Do NOT use a high heat drying/washing cycle. This will cause the chrome plating to come off, and may also deform the thermoplastic (which is all of the plastic) parts as is what happened to a previous reviewer. Ours had the chrome plating begin to "rot" off after only the second wash. I called the Jack LaLanne juicer service phone number and they suggested I return it. I'd take it back, but I don't care about the chrome myself and the product works fine. If you've had this problem, take it back and get a replacement, they need to correct the washing instructions or fix the product design.
Another bad property of the product is that it mentions various vegetables or grasses that naturally have a low water content can be put in the juicer. Wheat grass and broccoli come to mind. I think that this is misleading; from my experience with the ginger root, these products do not have enough liquid content to produce a significant amount of juice and will need to be "chased" in the machine with something that has a higher liquid content to extract any material. This is bad information given to the consumer if they think they can get a glass of "straight" wheat grass juice. In summary: 3 to 3 1/2 stars. What the machine is capable of doing, it does well. It does not do everything it should do (as advertised) and has some unfortunate limitations and design issues. When it works, it does a really good job, but I wouldn't want to be limited to apples, carrots, tomatoes, hard pears and celery if I had actually paid for this product. I would give this a very cautious "buy it" recommendation, but just know what you are getting into and see if there's something that might do a better job for you. If they update the design, then this juicer may be a better product.

A welcome addition to any healthy kitchen, this fruit-and-vegetable electric juicer produces fresh juice quickly and easily. Simply place a glass or small pitcher under the spout; insert whole apples, pears, cucumbers, or other produce into the extra-large round chute; then gently and slowly press down on the food pusher. The unit's powerful 3,600 RPM induction motor and surgical-quality stainless-steel blade deliver delicious, all-natural juice in seconds--a nice alternative to store-bought varieties that often come laden with artificial sugar and preservatives. The unit's patented extraction technology protects vital nutrients and living enzymes, plus provides up to 30-percent more juice than other juicers. Pulp gets spun towards the back of the unit, collecting in an extra-large, detachable pulp catcher for easy disposal or composting, or, better yet, for flavoring cookies, soups, salsa, cakes, and more. Other highlights include whisper-quiet operation, a unique non-drip spout, and dishwasher-safe parts for quick cleanup. Attractively housed in stainless steel with black accents, the electric juicer measures 16 by 12 by 15-1/2 inches and carries a limited lifetime motor warranty.

Whiskas Purrfectly Fish Tuna Entree in Natural Juices Food for Cats, 3-Ounce Pouches (Pack of 24)
Average Reviews:

My cat is 15 years old, and has NEVER liked a kitty treat in her life - the only non-dry cat food she would ever eat was REAL tuna fish juice, drained from the can (and never mind the tuna). She has also had what I affectionately call a "tender tummy", meaning that every few weeks, since she was a kitten, she has had vomiting episodes that last a day or so and then disappear again. No explanation. Basically, I've just had to find cat food for her that matches the carpet on the way back up. Ew.
About a year ago, she stopped eating all together, and I was worried that she and I had reached the end of her long life. In actuality, she had just decided she no longer liked the IAMS senior she had eaten for 10 years, was going on a hunger strike that put her in the ER Vet with failing kidneys due to dehydration.
Enter Wiskas Purrfectly Fish Tuna (in the pack of ten, with the sardines and Whitefish/tuna mix). She instantly started eating again, and her health returned in a matter of days. AND, no more random vomiting!! She even deigns to eat dry cat food once a day to supplement the moist stuff - I'm using IAMS young adult (orange bag), and have had no problems there either.
She has her preferences with the Wiskas, don't be deceived. She will ONLY eat the purrfectly fish, NOT any other flavor, and really doesn't prefer the sardines (neither do I). The tuna entree with the whitefish is often only halfway eaten, but the tuna entree alone is always finished, which is why I was so happy to see it for sale here by itself.
One complaint, though. My kitchen now smells like dead fish. But, to save my carpets, her health, and my sanity, I'll sacrifice a little smell.

Green Star GS-1000 Juice Extractor Review

Green Star GS-1000 Juice Extractor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been juicing since the early 1990s and more recently, as a certified raw foods associate chef, have been preparing a wider range of juicer recipes including pates and ice cream from frozen bananas. I have experience with Green Star, Champion, Juiceman, and several other juicers, and have read quite a bit about various models of juicers. If you are going to be juicing a lot of greens such as kale and parsley, the Green Star will give you a better and more nutritious yield than any juicer on the market. It far exceeds masticating juicers such as the Champion in this regard, as well as centrifugal juicers such as the Juiceman. A huge benefit of Green Star is that it juices wheat grass, so you will not need a dedicated wheat grass juicer. It's also amazingly quiet, far quieter (and a bit slower) than my Champion. And like the Champion, it does a great job with pates, frozen ice cream, and other recipes requiring a homogenizing blade, also known as a "blank." With a slower speed, the juice does not heat up as much as with a Champion and oxidizes slower.
So is there a catch? Yes. There are far more parts to assemble, disassemble, and clean than with a Champion. I'm reminded of the time when my brother was a child, he asked to borrow my father's watch, and my father said, "sure." A few days later, my father wanted his watch back, and entered my brothers room to find a bazillion little pieces on the floor: gears, springs, etc. My brother explained that he wanted the watch so he could take it apart, but not to worry he said, "I'll put it back together." My father said, "don't worry about it, you can keep the watch." When I take apart a Green Star juicer, I always think of this story because it has so many more parts than a Champion. (Although fortunately, the Green Star is far easier to assemble and disassemble than an analog watch.:-) At the Living Light Culinary Institute where I trained as a raw foods chef, when we made pates and banana ice cream, we always reached for the Champion, not the Green Star.
In deciding whether to purchase a Green Star juicer, consider whether you are going to be juicing a lot of greens and/or wheatgrass, and whether you're really going to take the time to disassemble, clean, and assemble about a dozen parts each time you use it. If you're not put off by that, then I highly recommend the Green Star. If you are mostly considering a juicer for carrot juice, fruit juices, banana ice cream and pates, then I would steer you towards the Champion. If you want to use a juicer for all of the above and can afford and have the space for both, then I enthusiastically recommend both.
Note that there are 3 models of Green Star juicers, of which the GS1000 is their most basic model. The GreenStar.com website explains the various accessories that come with or can be purchased with each. Accessories such as pasta makers and mochi makers are available for purchase with the GS1000, but are included with the GS3000.

HB 2 Speed Juice Extractor Review

The juicer is okay for every day use. I have a lot of lefovers from carrots that did not turn into juice. So I make carrot cakes out of them, FYI. The best thing about it is that is gets assembled pretty easily; it takes a little effort, however, to get the grinding piece off. My mother-in-law even wanted to take it to the store to ask for help before I came and showed her that she had to pull harder. I usually rinse the parts in the sink before I dish wash them. It is a matter of 5-10 minutes, maybe, to clean after yourself. This juicer saved us money; we do not buy any frozen juices any longer. What makes me unhappy is that it's fairly loud, I can't make the juice early in the morning before my jogging time. The neighbors downstars would not appreciate it. I'd not extremely loud though as those with higher power go, stll my daughter jumps every now and then if I turn it on without letting her know before hand. The plastice does stain from the fruit/veggies. I can't quite get it why they make it out of plastic, it looks a little cheap and worn out after a few uses. Over all, it's served us for 2+ years with no break. I am pretty pleased with the price and quality of it.

This is the greatest juicer I have ever used! I juice elderberries every year to make concentrate for the flu and cold season. These little berries are very hard to juice, and with the hanging time involved (usually over night) it took at least twelve hours just to get the juice. With this steamer juicer I had pure juice in one half hour and had made the concentrate and water bath canned it in a total of one hour. I have also used the steamer juicer for stawberries, blackberries, apples, and tomatoes with wonderful results. Winemakers and home canners would be doing themselves a big favor by purchasing one of these, as the time saved and the quality of the juice will pay for the juicer in no time.

With a 9-1/2-quart capacity, this juicer steamer offers plenty of room for high-volume juicing, measuring approximately 12 inches in diameter by 14-1/2 inches tall. Simply add fresh fruit in the top container, fill the bottom container with water, and bring to a boil on the stove top. The resulting steam gently extracts the juice, which drips into the center pan where it can be collected from the surgical-quality tube. Drink the vitamin-rich juice fresh, or save it for making jelly or syrup. Without the center pan and tube, the juicer steamer can also be used to steam vegetables on the stove top.
Ruggedly built, the juicer steamer features gleaming stainless-steel construction with a bottom that consists of a layer of aluminum sandwiched between two layers of stainless steel for fast, even heat distribution. Side loop handles on each of the three vessels help ensure safe, secure transport, and its secure-fitting lid with a loop handle helps keep in heat, moisture, and nutrients. Instructions and a recipe book come included.

Mountain Woods Extra Large Acacia Cutting Board w/ Juice Groove Review

Mountain Woods Extra Large Acacia Cutting Board w/ Juice Groove

This large Mountain Woods cutting board is great for the price, it's fantastic. It is made of hard wood providing a nice cutting surface.
This is the only cutting board an average home cook should need. it is reversable (though only one side has groove). It is large enough to use it for every day cutting and even serving a roast on your table, yet still managable in the sink to wash.
The board I received is smooth and straight. It is easily worth two or three times the price amazon.com sells them for.

Bormioli Rocco Luna Tumbler Juice Glasses, Set of 12 Review

Bormioli Rocco Luna Tumbler Juice Glasses, Set of 12
These are beautiful glasses, machine washable, fit in the hand nicely and have a nice heavy bottom so they are hard to knock over (and the bubble in the glass is pretty cool too). However, as a kitchen glass they were too wide for my 11 year old son to comfortably carry in one hand and they didn't carry enough liquid for ice water or milk (at least in my humble opinion). I wound up selling them to somebody else. They would make awesome rocks glasses for a bar or would be good kitchen glasses for somebody who doesn't drink much at a time.
