Juiceman JM480S 1.1-HP 2-Speed All-in-One Automatic Juice Extractor and Citrus Juicer with Integrated Pulp Container Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)The Juiceman appears to be a great value at first. This appliance looks and feels sturdy and comes with two types of juicer. One is the classic "spinning cone" that you press a half a citrus against. It's essentially a motorized version of the glass juicer that we have just about all used at one time or another. The other juicer function is the "juice extractor" which is the configuration pictured in the Amazon website photo. This is the way we spent our testing time, in this configuration, and we were frankly kind of disappointed. The Juiceman produced juice, but it produced a LOT more pulp. I found I could get about as much juice by hand squeezing the pulp at the end of an extraction than the extraction itself. Seemed odd. We followed all the instructions, and our observation is that the recipe yields in the instruction book are optimistic at best. In general, it seemed to take us about twice as many apples to make a cup of juice as suggested in the book. It seemed to take about three times as many carrots. In talking with friends who had more experience with this kind of unit, we found that they had a couple of recommendations: 1. Make sure you have only the freshest, juiciest fruits and vegetables and that you soak carrots and celery in water before use; 2. The several times more expensive juicers exist because they work better. Upon checking some web sources, we found that most of the folks who are really happy with their juicers, whatever the brand, seem to gravitate towards the $300-500 kind. Wow! This Juiceman is $79. So, a way to look at it is, how much extra fruit and vegetable can you buy for the added couple hundred dollars? Probably enough that you'll get tired of juicing before you make up the difference. A poor way to look at it, I'm sure, but here is why I say this.
The Juiceman is not fun to clean. Juicing carrots seemed to leave a glaze on the surface of the extractor cup, which is a spinning steel and plastic bowl inside the machine. It has sharp spurs on the bottom of the cup to grind off bits of fruit and vegetable which are then centrifuged against the fine screened sides which allow the juice to fly out into the collection area of the unit when in operation. We went through half a Costco bag of carrots, four apples, a bunch of spinach, four large celery stalks, etc. This required emptying the pulp bin about four times. We got well under a pint of juice altogether. In fact, the four of us were using shot glasses to share the output. When we finished and I went to do final cleaning, it was very hard to remove the filmy glaze on the bottom of the extractor cup. I soaked it overnight in water. The next day, it was still had to scrub off. I used a toothbrush for the task. They supply a cleaning brush in the kit, which is essentially a stiff toothbrush, too. The other parts didn't have the filmy glaze, but there are a lot of parts to clean. The next hardest cleaning task is the plastic labyrinth that leads the juice out of the spout on the front of the unit. You absolutely need a brush or other implement to reach into these spaces to clean unless you have skinny fingers. Whatever you do, don't let this plastic thing sit after use - you need to clean it immediately. The rest of the pieces are more or less like cleaning a food processor.
I suppose the bottom line here is that I now appreciate why commercial fruit and vegetable juices are not cheap, especially the "organic" health food types. If you must have this kind of appliance, do a lot of checking beforehand and buy enough juicer that you'll be happy with it. This one is not enough unless you have other uses for all the pulp and have enough time to be inefficient about producing juice.

Prodyne Acrylic Juice Jar Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)These carafes are like artwork in the refrigerator. The acrylic jar is sturdy and easy to handle even when full.
Washing has not been a problem as long as the contents aren't allowed to dry (meaning rinse it out as soon as it becomes empty).
The worst part about this product is the lid. The flip-top lid does not stay open unless it's pushed all the way back. Then, when pouring, the contents splashes because there's no vent hole in the lid. Lastly, the shape of the lip on the lid causes a small, but very noticeable amount of liquid to remain on the lid, which unfortunately turns into a gross and crusty mess very quickly. I would recommend keeping a towel or rag near-by to wipe off the lid after each use.
Update - 3 months after purchase
I purchased several of these carafes and in just 3 months one has been discarded because it cracked on the bottom and began to leak, while all the others have developed cracks in the neck. I would strongly recommend against purchasing this product for refrigerated liquids.
It seems to be more well suited as a serving container that will be used for an event and then emptied before being stored.

Black & Decker JE2100 10-Ounce Fruit-and-Vegetable Juice Extractor Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)I could not bring myself to pay the prices for the expensive juicers when it seems that they all work the same way. What I like about this juicer is: 1) it works, 2) it's small, 3) if I break it I will not be out for a hundred or more dollars. Juicing is fast and simple. Another reviewer says you aren't getting all of the juice from the pulp. My observation is that my pulp is very dry: I suggest you feed the pieces as directed. And remove veins from your celery. Another reviewer said that when you lift out the screen assembly, stuff falls out. Actually, the screen collar housing is easy to remove and it brings out the screen at the same time. The collar has a lip that catches everything. The screen is hard to clean, but that's true on every juicer. Get a small nylon brush with soft, long bristles too large to get stuck in the holes, and be patient. I found it takes 5 minutes to clean up the entire unit and put the pieces on the dish rack to dry. Another reviewer said that the pulp exit gets clogged and the motor might slow down. This is also my experience, specifically with carrots. When you notice this happening, turn off, remove the cover, and use a finger to clear the blockage and to scoop any lingering chunks from the screen, then put the cover back on and keep going. This takes 20 seconds, it's not a big deal. I like this unit for quick personal juicing and I will be keeping it.

Equipped with a 400-watt motor, this powerful juice extractor quickly converts fresh fruits and vegetables into healthy, all-natural, pulp-free juice--a delicious alternative to store-bought varieties that often come laden with artificial sugar and preservatives. The unit can juice up to 10 ounces (300 ml) in a matter of minutes. Its durable blade breaks down the fibers, sending pure juice through the stainless-steel strainer, out the spout, and into the included juice cup. Pulp collects in a container in the back. Compost the pulp or, better yet, use it to flavor soups, sauces, breads, cakes, and more. Other thoughtful design details include simple one-handed operation, a clear cover for viewing the process from start to finish, three-way automatic shutoff with an anti-drip system, and convenient cord storage. In a compact size that takes up minimal space on the counter, the juice extractor measures 9 by 6 by 11-2/7 inches.

Sun's Tea (TM) 13oz Strong Double Wall Old-Fashioned Thermo Whiskey/coffee/juice Glasses, Set of 2 Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)I had been waiting for a competitor to Bodum for double-walled glasses for a while now. Since this product advertised "strong" as a marketing tag, I thought it'd be worthwhile to try it out. However, this review isn't about the durability (yet) because I had owned the set for only a few days now.
If you're inclined to buy a pair of these glasses as gifts, be sure to buy two pairs. This is because the production quality appears quite inconsistent. My tallest glass is a whole centimeter taller than my shortest, and that's not mentioning the difference of heights between the inner and outer layers. One of my glasses does not have a perfectly level bottom, so it jiggles a little against the counter. If you're going to keep pairs or give them away, be sure to match the glasses closest in height and internal volume.
About internal volume - these are NOT 13 oz. They actually hold between 9-10 oz, closer to 8 oz comfortably. That's a cup. The 13 oz may refer to the outer layer.
Because of the thickness of the walls and distance between the layers, the lip is a bit thick as well. That's just a minor detail (it's easier to drink from a thinner glass lip).
In terms of insulation quality, they will hold cold milk well without sweating on the outside, but you will still feel the outer surface get cool, which is expected.
I'll add more later in terms of durability as I see fit, but the glasses seem sturdy enough. They remind me a great deal of lab beakers, actually.
Update 8/13: One of my glasses broke. A roughly 1-cm shard of glass was floating around between the walls and water got in during dishwashing. Judging by the location of the break (inside bottom "edge" of glass), I think someone dropped a heavy utensil like a butter knife into it while it was in the sink, causing the breakage. I don't know how that would translate into their "ice cube drop" test, but there you go.

Olympus Extra Large Commercial Juice Press, Black Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)I own a medium sized Ra Chand juicer, the popular model J210. Although the fit and finish of the Ra Chand juicer is somewhat crude, it makes up for it in brute strength and straightforward design. It works excellent for limes, lemons, and small to medium sized oranges and it will last a lifetime, even with daily use. The problem with the J210 is that it does not juice large oranges and grapefruits very well. I needed a larger juicer because I have a grapefruit tree and an orange tree that produce larger than average fruit. I decided against the Ra Chand J500 because they were more expensive than the OrangeX juicer, and the reviews of the OrangeX juicer were for the most part favorable--most of the complaints were for paint chips (doesn't appear to be a problem here) and slow delivery (also not a problem). I was disappointed when my OrangeX large commercial juicer arrived because the top cone and lower "bowl" assembly of the juicer, where the fruit fits, is no larger than the Ra Chand medium sized J210 juicer. In fact, it appears to be smaller than the Ra Chand medium sized juicer. Also, they are thin stamped stainless steel where on the Ra Chand juicer they are polished cast aluminum. That being said, the OrangeX juicer is heavy duty and fairly well built. I have no doubt it will work fine for limes, lemons, and small to medium oranges, and that it too will last a lifetime. However, now I have two juicers that will do the same thing and I still have no juicer for larger grapefruits, unless I settle for squeezing some of the grapefruit and having the edge squirt all over the edge. In retrospect, I wish I had looked at the Ra Chand J500 and, given that it is truly larger than the J210, spent the extra $50 to get something that would not only work for larger fruit, but medium and smaller fruit as well.

Bormioli Rocco Perugia Small Juice Glass, Set of 6 Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)i got these glasses because i am trying to use less plastic in our everyday living. my kids (ages 3 & 5) do fairly well with our adult sized glasses, but they are really too big for easy maneuvering. these glasses are the perfect size for them to use during meals. the slight taper and patterned bottom make them very easy for small hands to grip. they are made of a nice thick glass and have survived a bit of rough handling (one got dropped on linoleum from kid-height without incident). these wash up beautifully in the dishwasher. my only tiny complaint is that they sometimes stick together if you stack them. it doesn't always happen, but i have avoided stacking them since i figured that out. overall, i am very pleased with the quality of these little glasses, and the excellent packaging and quick shipping made the seller one that i would definitely deal with again.

Juiceman JM1000M Juiceman Express Junior Silver Metallic Juice Extractor and Food Processor Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)This juicer is easy to use, easy to clean up (almost every part is dishwasher safe), and packs a punch. While it's not some giant monster unit that will take over your entire counter, it's still an appliance- around somewhere in between the size of a blender and food processor.
My husband and I just took out of the box (it was mostly assembled in the box- it comes with the base plus about four additional parts that snap into place), quickly cleaned the machine, plugged it in, and away we went.
We threw in a handful of grapes, a whole apple, four carrots, two pieces of celery, and a small handful of spinach (what we had in the fridge at the moment). Everything was put into the juicer whole (except for the apple, which was the size of a softball and had to be cut in half) and fit fine. Within a flip of a switch and an instant to work, my husband had a HUGE tumbler of a frothy, cold, creamy fruit and veggie smoothie. And it actually tastes really good. I've never been a big fan of juicing, (I drink a lot of tea) but I do have to admit, there's a serious refreshing and crisp quality to a fresh glass of juice. It's definitely better than the stuff you get from the store. And as long as you have more glasses to put under the spout, you can continue juicing as long as you like.
Just a few small complaints- food can pop up from the shoot when the machine is running, and it's a little messy when disassembling for cleanup. But that's to be expected.
This is NOT a machine that grinds up seeds and pits and the typically "unedible" bits of fruit and veggies, just so you know. Most of the pulp from the fruits and veggies were in the receptacle (the long black piece on the side of the unit) but a few bits ended up in the bowl, easily cleaned out with a quick rinse. There was very little "grainy" pulp in the smoothie we made. I tend to dislike pulpy drinks and I didn't notice much pulp at all- the smoothie was incredibly smooth without being thin or watery.
The pulp, which can be used in recipes and baking, was a little moist, but not drippy, so the juicer did a very nice job of extracting the juice from the fruits and veggies.
So, in about three minutes, with a handful of stuff we already had in our fridge, we made a delicious smoothie. And cleanup was just as fast and easy as making the juice. I'm really very impressed with this machine. I'm kind of a beverage gadget queen, and I've had everything from smoothie machines to blenders to shaved ice makers and this is the most impressed I've been with any of them. Never thought a juicer might inspire me to start experimenting more in my kitchen, but it has.
The recipe book is a little uninspired (mainly a stapled together booklet with some "intro to juicing" suggestions in it), but it's a good start. I think the key is to just try different things and see what you like.
If you're looking for a new way to make some nice treats for your family, this may be your gadget. I'm glad my husband was interested in this gadget, it may actually the one I wind up using regularly, and for the long haul.

A nice addition to any healthy kitchen, this fruits-and-vegetables electric juicer produces fresh juice with a simple push of a button. Just place a glass or pitcher under the spout, insert fruit or vegetables into the large 3-inch wide-mouth feed chute (cutting over-sized items into smaller pieces if necessary), and gently and slowly press down using the included pusher. The machine accommodates anything from pineapple, melon, apples, oranges, and grapes to tomatoes, celery stalks, cucumbers, and carrots. The unit comes equipped with a powerful 450-watt motor, which propels its heavy-duty blade for maximum juice extraction in a minimal amount of time. Choose from two speed settings--low or high, or push the Perfect Prep button for precise control over the consistency. Even more, the multifunctional juice extractor can be used as a food processor thanks to the included extra-large 9-cup work bowl. Other highlights include an extra-large 54-ounce pulp container, a wipe-clean user-friendly control panel, four feet for stability, and dishwasher-safe parts for quick cleanup. The multifunctional juicer measures approximately 8-2/3 by 17-2/3 by 18 inches.
Orange-X Professional Juicer Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)I have owned a large Orange-X juicer for two winters, and I recently bought a mid-size juicer as a gift. I am the author of the "Best juicer, April 8, 2001" review for the large Orange-X. My Orange-X has withstood the test of time as a daily habit during orange season. Think how many kitchen appliances gather dust next to the rowing machine; daily use is the ultimate testimonial. The habit I've settled on is to rotate a bowl of several varieties of citrus into the fridge for the next glass, and squeeze one glass at a time. Cleanup is easy enough, and "just-squeezed" (as opposed to yesterday's juice in a bottle) tastes good enough, that this habit sticks.
Setting the two units next to each other, I can make some comparisons.
First, every unit has a unique personality, and some units can only fairly be classified as defective. I looked at four mid-sized units before accepting one, rejecting two as defective, and the one I accepted has definite quirks. (Hey, so do I!) This is a brilliant design, but we're not talking BMW quality control at the factory. For now, this is hands down the best lever juicer on the market, but the principle of applying leverage during a stroke can't be patentable, someone will get around the Orange-X patents with better manufacturing quality, and Orange-X will be history.
What to look for, examining a unit for defects? The base should sit squarely on the counter, not warped so only three feet touch as a time. The various assembly parts should line up vertically on the pole, so the squeezing action is "on center". The lever arm should reach a bit past vertical, so it won't come down by surprise onto your fingers. Watch the lever action very carefully. It should impress you with its beauty, not look "all twisty", and maximum leverage should occur near the very end of the stroke; too soon is a quirk.
It is obvious, mail-ordering from Amazon, that you will be studying your unit more carefully than anyone before you. You have to admire Amazon for not deleting this post. In my extensive experience with Amazon, they are dedicated to keeping satisfied customers.
Now, the differences between the sizes: Price. Weight, 16 lbs -vs- 19 lbs. Height in rest position, 16" -vs- 18 1/2". Height of handle at top of stroke, 28 3/4" -vs- 31 1/2". Maximum glass height, 4 13/16" -vs- 6 1/8". Same stroke length, 3 7/8". Same strainer basket.
In other words, the two sizes should be virtually identical in function, with the mid-size a bit less unwieldly, and an easier reach if you don't play basketball. A "jam jar" tumbler will only fit directly under the large, but most pint measuring cups fit fine under the mid-size, as do many glasses.
On the other hand, if you can put up with the price, height, and weight of the large, and you're tall enough, it may be the way to go. In some intangible way the design feels more fully expressed in the large, but the mid-size works just fine.
I found my large handles grapefruit easily, but needs a rubber shim for thin-skinned citrus. Not mashing bitter oils from the peel is an intentional design feature of the Orange-X, but the spacing is fixed, and can only be adjusted by shimming with rubber Mason jar gaskets under the strainer basket, which I sometimes do. The particular mid-size I tested requires more effort to squeeze a grapefruit, but handles thin-skinned oranges better. I believe this to be the individual personalities of the units, not a generalization that applies to mid-size -vs- large, but, heh, who knows?

Breville BJB840XL Juice and Blend Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)Newbie juicer here but our blender just kicked the bucket so I wanted to get something that could do both and last me a while ... and look good on the countertop too. The Juice n Blend is definitely a beast .. we've had it for a little over a month and it has been used just about every single day since it got here. Assembly and disassembly is super quick and it churns out juice very very fast .. it's been a top priority for my wife and I to begin adding more servings of vegetables and fruits in our diet and this has been a tasty way to do just that. The unit has worked remarkably well for juicing and the blender is simply a step above any of the blenders I've previously owned. It's solid and does a fantastic job .. and again .. cleanup is a breeze.
Highly recommend for those looking to fill both those roles in one unit.

Breville BJE820XL Dual Disc Juice Processor Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)Let me start off saying that prior to selecting this appliance from the Amazon Vine program, I have been a big fan of juice drinks and smoothies but totally inexperienced in making them from scratch. However, shortly after using this well-designed, easy to use, high quality product from Breville, I enjoy the smoothies this product enables me to make at least as much as those I pay too much for at places like Jamba Juice.
The Breville BJE820Xl Dual Disc Juice Processor, while pricey, makes the expression "you get what you pay for" more true than ever. Why is this so? One key reason is that its puree disc and insert, which purees fruits such as mangoes, oranges and bananas, and retains the fiber rich fiber pulp for thick, all-fruit smoothies. (Further, while I haven't used this disc for making the following, it also is supposed to be great for making healthy dips, sauces, soups and sorbets). A second reason is the juice disc, which extracts only the juice from fruits and vegetables that enables an 8oz glass to be ready in just about five seconds. A third reason is its 3" wide chute that allows you to process whole fruits and vegetables without pre-cutting. Reason four is that it comes with an extra large 1.2 liter jug with froth separator; and reason five is its excellent engineering that enables the processor to operate in a very quiet manner due to its high torque, 1200 watt motor. And if the above reasons aren't enough, this appliance's heavy grade die-cast metal body gives it a very professional appearance.

Oster 3157 400-Watt Single-Speed Juice Extractor Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)I was looking for a small, inexpensive juicer today that I can use for a couple of months while I'm away from home and found the Oster juicer at my local store. I'd never heard of the brand before but at under $50 it seemed like a bargain. So I grabbed a bag of veggies and dashed back to give it a whirl.
The mouth where you push the veggies through is a decent size but you will need to slice most veggies at least once before you can fit them in. No big deal, takes about 2 minutes to do the whole lot. The motor is really strong and had no trouble chewing through carrots and beets. It has a decent size pulp catcher that's quick and easy to take off when you need to empty it.
I also like the fact that there is not a huge amount of space between the blade and the plastic thing that's used to push the veggies/fruit down, so small bits don't get stuck in the gap like some previous brands I've used.
There's not much bad I can say about it, given the size and price. If you're a big time juicer and will use a machine daily you might want to get a larger capacity juicer or one that can fit whole fruits and veg in. If you're new to juicing, will only use it once or twice a week or don't want to fork out for pro juicer then I'd definitely consider this, you really can't go wrong.
