(More customer reviews)I don't think you can find a better, easier to use citrus juicer at any price. It's gone up a couple of bucks since I bought mine, but it is still the best deal available without question.
It's fast, stable on the counter, converts to a serving pitcher when you're done juicing, and it's absolutely a cinch to clean up. I can't think of anything Proctor Silex could do to improve this product.
If you're in the market for a citrus juicer (and fresh-squeezed is so far superior to anything you can buy in the grocery store) you can't do better than this one. Buy it.

It seemed strange at first, but after I used it the first time, I declared it the greatest invention since the mandoline v-slicer for vegatables! It's so simple - you just cut the lemon in half and squeeze. In seconds, you have a whole cup of juice sans seeds and pulp. I've just learned that it comes in lime and orange sizes as well... I might just have to order that orange juicer for my morning squeeze.

(More customer reviews)If you only occasionally need to juice a lemon, lime or orange, this is the tool to get. It's compact and yet does the job. If the cost is too high, get a wood version. Most of those other hand held juicers don't get any more of the juice out and make just as big a mess. By that I mean you need to do the operation over a bowl. A nice 1 qt Pyrex mearsuring bowl is perfect as you can pour the juice out when you are done.
If you own a lemon, orange or lime tree and want juice every morning, or if you have tunnel carpel syndrome, or arthritis, skip this tool. But if you are healthy you'll have no trouble at all getting all the juice out.
If you don't want the pulp, run the juice through a hand strainer when you pour it out. I like pulp in my lemonaid and orange juice so this is my prefered tool. And best of all,its inexpensive and it stores easily in the junk drawer and doesn't take up any of my counter space.

(More customer reviews)This juicer does a good job of getting as much juice as possible out of small to medium citrus fruits - lemons, Persian limes, and oranges.
If you place a spacer under the juice container (I used the lid from a gallon jug of Arizona iced tea) it will also juice very small citrus - namely thin-skinned Key limes. To me, this alone makes it worthwhile because motorized-reamer juicers like my Cuisinart aren't well suited to this, while manual reamers are a lot of work... my Nigella Lawson Bliss juicer is wonderful for a lime at a time, but I just juiced over a quart of key lime juice with the Typhoon. It seems to get as much as much juice out of each lime as Nigella's, which is my benchmark. It does the job, and it looks good doing it.
However, it does have its imperfections. Seeds find their way through the holes, so I always empty it through a funnel with a strainer. The plastic piece the cup sits on wasn't pressed in until it was level and it took a lot of juicing before it seated itself - before that the cup tended to wander off center. I've become aware that guidance of the cup and/or plunger is necessary. Large citrus (giant grapefruit in particular) won't fit or won't be fully juiced. It flexes a bit, so I don't know if it'll last forever. Only the juice cup is dishwasher-safe stainless; the plunger cup needs to be removed and hand-washed.
That said, it does a better job with small citrus, with less hassle, than any juicer I own and I've had several. Mine is red, and it's earned its place on my counter. I couldn't ask for a better partner in my Tiki drink and margarita addictions.

(More customer reviews)I'll give it 5 stars for construction and finish, but only 1 star for design and functionality - that averages out to 3 stars. To put it bluntly, the darn thing just doesn't work very well.
The main problem is with the ribbed cones that are supposed to do the reaming and extract the juice - not only are the ribs too "dull", but the top is too rounded, so the fruit tends to slide off to the side when you push down on it, even if you twist at the same time. The unit is something of a "rattle-trap" as well - the cone sits loosely in the strainer, and the strainer sits loosely in the bowl, and even a slight misdirection of pressure can have unexpected consequences!
My old one-piece 69-cent plastic juicer, that I picked up at the supermarket, outperforms this thing by a wide margin. The plastic unit has sharp-edged ribs and a pointed tip, and extracts every last drop of juice with minimal effort. Guess I'll be sticking with that until something better comes along.

The unit I purchased intermittently experienced a slow down of the motor. I requested a replacement and Amazon delivered the replacement at no charge in just a few days but the replacement also had bent parts. Between the two units I was able to assemble one good system and I returned the defective parts in the packaging provided. Great service from Amazon, poor quality control on the part of the remanufacctures.

(More customer reviews)I don't know why some people don't like this item. I picked a bunch of oranges just finished "juicing" about two gallons orange juice without a hitch. Once you understand what this item is designed to do and you don't try to do more... like juicing a watermelon then it's GREAT! I think the main problem some people have is this thing has torque and if you try to grind on it, it will spin. I've seen the videos and read the negative comments. Come on guys, read the instructions and use some common sense! How many hands and how much pressure do you need to juice half an orange. Let the machine do it's job. If starts to move then hold on to the base with your free hand. Oh, and make sure you put the cord through the little notch in the base and it sits flush. This thing also has a auto-reversing feature that is trick but what I really like about this item is the "washing machine spin". Talk about getting every last drop. Some people don't like pulp, I like pulp... it's an ORANGE! Jeese guys, this is as fresh as your going to get. Juice, pulp, seeds, core, bugs, and what ever else in that orange will get "juiced" and end up in your glass. This is as fresh and natural and you can get. You don't like pulp... tough. Some people whine about the spout, it's a spout, get a small glass under it (I used a 2 cup measuring glass) and catch the juice! Yes it will clog up after about a cup or two, it's called "PULP". Clean it out and get back to juicing. Some people complain about too many parts to clean, all three (3) of them... get a life. Heck, I like this item so much and at such a great price I'm going to order two more just because I can. I don't know of another citrus juicer out there with this auto-reversing and spin feature for $12.00 refurbished.

Black & Decker CJ630 32-Ounce Electric Citrus Juicer Review

(More customer reviews)This is a nice juicer with a quality feel to it. Here is what I like about it, and where I see room for minor improvement:
The Good:
- Very easy to assemble, and more importantly very easy to clean. I just briefly rinse after use and then put the parts in the top dishwasher rack (minus the part housing the motor, of course).
- Operation is clean, i.e. no juice hits the counter top, everything goes inside the pitcher.
- I especially like the two cone sizes: The smaller one is for lemons and limes, the larger which goes on top of the smaller cone when needed, for grapefruits and oranges.
- The smaller cone (which is always in) also features two plastic "blades" (called stirrers in the manual) at the bottom edge which rotate with the cone and help that juice and, if so desired, pulp actually make it into the pitcher through the strainer openings. One of the pet peeves I always had about manual juicers was the fact that the strainer got clogged with pulp and seeds so that the juice sat on top and didn't flow through. Having these stirrers there moves pulp and seeds around so that the juice can get through and the openings don't get clogged. But see note below when processing a larger number of fruits...
- The reverse rotation feature is also useful in that I feel that more juice gets extraced from the fruit than if it would always just rotate in one direction. The fruit halves look really squeezed out.
- Pitcher has a good capacity (32 oz). Works just as well for several large fruits as it does when one only has one single lemon - not too big, not too small.
Don't Like So Much:
- The electrical cord is rather short, so one can't operate this too far away from an outlet.
- The auto-reverse sometimes kicks in and sometimes doesn't, and since there is no button to auto-reverse, it sometimes requires several tries.
- When squeezing a lemon on the max pulp setting, quite a few of the baby seeds also get through. Since I like as much pulp as I can get in my juices, this is either something I have to live with or I reduce the pulp setting to ensure that I don't have the little seeds floating in my juice.
- When squeezing larger fruits like oranges, a lot of the pulp tends to eventually collect on top of the strainer despite the stirrers (it just doesn't fit through the small strainer openings). So I end up having to periodically scoop it out when processing a larger number of fruits to avoid solid covering of the strainer.
Summary:
This is a useful appliance for normal household usage. I don't think, however, I would use it if I had large amounts of juice to make but for the occasional pitcher, this is perfect. At the price this is offered here, there is really nothing to think about: Get it and enjoy your lemonades or orange juices.

Well, I juiced exactly _3_ 3-inch diameter oranges. On the 4th orange, a critical cast-iron piece on one of the 2 right-hand hinges broke.
Other review comments concerning difficulty of cleanup are accurate. I would add that the metal strainer has edges that seemed quite sharp, making cleanup potentially dangerous.
I would not recommend this juicer under any circumstances.

Cuisinart CCJ-100 Citrus Pro Juicer Review

(More customer reviews)You'd think it would be hard to mess up when designing an item that just juices halved citrus fruit, but they did. And how! There are three annoying features about this machine that interact to provide a supremely annoying user experience.
The first annoying feature about this juicer is that the pour spout juts out a mere 1/4 inch from the side of the machine. Since the machine is rounded and somewhat urn-shaped (fatter on top than on the bottom), you have very little space to get a glass or measuring cup near the body of the machine in order to catch the juice. Keep in mind that some measuring glasses can be rather thick, and you can easily see that this might be a bit of a problem.
Now for the other two problems. I should note that this machine has a decent amount of torque, and can indeed ream out a citrus fruit rather efficiently, leaving nothing but rind. The problem is the three little rubber feet on the bottom cannot stand up to the machine's torque. Push a fruit down on the top and the entire machine jerks to the side, whereupon the spout flinches away from its tiny area of proper juice-dispensing, and juice meets counter. You have to exert a considerable amount of force when pushing down the fruit just to get the thing to stay put. I had to use both hands to do this (one holding the lemon down, one pushing against the side of the machine, leaving none for the measuring cup). It's not an insignificant amount of force; you really have to brace your arms on the thing to keep it still.
Thus comes the third problem, which is the auto-reverse mechanism. About the second or third time you push down on the fruit and activate the machine, it goes the other way (clockwise instead of counterclockwise) in order to get more pulp and juice out of the fruit. However, I haven't figured out how to tell which direction it's going to go next (it's not a simple first time this way, next time that way), so when it decides to change, the machine jerks in the opposite direction of where you were expecting it to go. This operates in opposition to the force you are exerting on the side of the machine trying to keep it from moving. Again, hilarity ensues.
So, all in all, I am NOT impressed with this juicer. Unfortunately, it was the only one at the store. Perhaps another company will see the opportunity here and dare to make a juicer that does not have such an impressively compounded collection of design flaws.

(More customer reviews)I usually like to 'live' with a product for awhile before posting any sort of review. We've been using our Tribest Citrus Juicer for about 3 months now. There really is not much to say other than it does exactly what I expected a citrus juicer to do... it reams citrus fruits very fast, very efficiently, very safe and easy to use, a really powerful motor, simple quick clean-up and it looks good. Excellent plastics materials used in construction and its a simple, smart design. It might be a little more expensive than many of the other citrus juicers currently in the marketplace but you can be sure you won't be disappointed. When searching for a citrus juicer I read quite a few reviews and it seems weak motors were the biggest single complaint with most of these electric citrus juicers. However I gathered from the reviews about this Tribest Citrus Juicer that a weak motor would definitely NOT be an issue and then when I considered the relatively small price difference for a juicer with a more powerful and reliable motor it really was a no-brainer decision for me. So today, after 3 months of everyday use (sometimes twice a day) squeezing 4-5 oranges and a grapefruit at a time (enough juice for two) I can comfortably come forward and recommend this juicer as a durable, quality kitchen appliance that looks good enough to leave out on the counter and you wouldn't mind using it everyday.

This is my second Amco Enameled Aluminum Lemon Squeezer (or Lemon Thingy as it is called by those of us whose memories have been addled by time, fate and circumstance). My first Lemon Thingy was pilfered by a friend in retaliation for the theft of a potato peeler, so obviously it is a very good juicer or I would have tried a new one, but why tempt fate?
This is a darn good lemon squeezer and I will defend it against all nay-sayers. It's easy to use, the juice comes squooshing out quite nicely, and I have suffered no lemon-related injuries as a result of using the apparatus. One reviewer complained that the lemon thingy was not dishwasher safe. It never occured to me that a lemon squeezer required such thorough cleansing. I just rinse mine under cold water and throw it back in the drawer. Certainly my housekeeping skills would make Martha Stewart take the gaspipe, but who scrubs the lemon juicer?
Another reviewer rather ominously foresees the day when the pin holding the two sides together will break. Well, yeah, eventually. But maybe we'll all be dead by then, look at the bright side. Another saves her lemon squoosher for lemons and has a separate (green) one devoted especially to limes. Lord I admire that kind of organization. I'm always surprised that I remembered to get lemons or limes in the first place, let alone have segregated squeezing apparati for them. And of course, I am, admittedly, a wildcard when it comes to citrus. If I were to find an orange small enough, I'd squoosh it in the lemon thingy too. Without hesitation. Yeah, I'm like that. Don't mess with me. No telling what will happen.

(More customer reviews)I have owned a large Orange-X juicer for two winters, and I recently bought a mid-size juicer as a gift. I am the author of the "Best juicer, April 8, 2001" review for the large Orange-X. My Orange-X has withstood the test of time as a daily habit during orange season. Think how many kitchen appliances gather dust next to the rowing machine; daily use is the ultimate testimonial. The habit I've settled on is to rotate a bowl of several varieties of citrus into the fridge for the next glass, and squeeze one glass at a time. Cleanup is easy enough, and "just-squeezed" (as opposed to yesterday's juice in a bottle) tastes good enough, that this habit sticks.
Setting the two units next to each other, I can make some comparisons.
First, every unit has a unique personality, and some units can only fairly be classified as defective. I looked at four mid-sized units before accepting one, rejecting two as defective, and the one I accepted has definite quirks. (Hey, so do I!) This is a brilliant design, but we're not talking BMW quality control at the factory. For now, this is hands down the best lever juicer on the market, but the principle of applying leverage during a stroke can't be patentable, someone will get around the Orange-X patents with better manufacturing quality, and Orange-X will be history.
What to look for, examining a unit for defects? The base should sit squarely on the counter, not warped so only three feet touch as a time. The various assembly parts should line up vertically on the pole, so the squeezing action is "on center". The lever arm should reach a bit past vertical, so it won't come down by surprise onto your fingers. Watch the lever action very carefully. It should impress you with its beauty, not look "all twisty", and maximum leverage should occur near the very end of the stroke; too soon is a quirk.
It is obvious, mail-ordering from Amazon, that you will be studying your unit more carefully than anyone before you. You have to admire Amazon for not deleting this post. In my extensive experience with Amazon, they are dedicated to keeping satisfied customers.
Now, the differences between the sizes: Price. Weight, 16 lbs -vs- 19 lbs. Height in rest position, 16" -vs- 18 1/2". Height of handle at top of stroke, 28 3/4" -vs- 31 1/2". Maximum glass height, 4 13/16" -vs- 6 1/8". Same stroke length, 3 7/8". Same strainer basket.
In other words, the two sizes should be virtually identical in function, with the mid-size a bit less unwieldly, and an easier reach if you don't play basketball. A "jam jar" tumbler will only fit directly under the large, but most pint measuring cups fit fine under the mid-size, as do many glasses.
On the other hand, if you can put up with the price, height, and weight of the large, and you're tall enough, it may be the way to go. In some intangible way the design feels more fully expressed in the large, but the mid-size works just fine.
I found my large handles grapefruit easily, but needs a rubber shim for thin-skinned citrus. Not mashing bitter oils from the peel is an intentional design feature of the Orange-X, but the spacing is fixed, and can only be adjusted by shimming with rubber Mason jar gaskets under the strainer basket, which I sometimes do. The particular mid-size I tested requires more effort to squeeze a grapefruit, but handles thin-skinned oranges better. I believe this to be the individual personalities of the units, not a generalization that applies to mid-size -vs- large, but, heh, who knows?
