(More customer reviews)What a fun way to make your own sparkling water or flavored soda! I first saw these types of machines while an exchange student in Germany 12 years ago. I loved my host family's soda machine, and even contemplated buying one back then. I figured at the time that I would have trouble finding a way to refill the CO2 tank, so I ended up not buying one. Now that I finally have one, I truly love it. The machine is very easy to use, and kind of fun too. Now I drink sparkling water whenever I want, or add it to fruit juice to give it a little fizz. I don't buy soda at the store anymore, I enjoy making it at home too much! I'm very happy with this product and would recommend it to anyone.

These are great in the UK, where you can buy the gas refills (actually exchanges) in many supermarkets for not much money. However, in the US there are pitifully few outlets for the refills (Williams Sonoma and Camping World) and as such they are always out of stock. Because these gas cylinders have a proprietary fitting and anti-refill valve on them, they cannot be refilled at paintball, welding, or homebrew stores, so your only option is to mail them to Sodastream and obtain refills from the manufacturer directly. This adds up very quickly, and there is simply no way you can achieve the 20c per liter carbonation they claim here. The cheapest refills available from the manufacturer today are 3x14.5oz cylinders for $39 + $10 shipping = 41c/l. But since you have to have 3 cylinders first, you have to buy 3 more first (another $75 + $10 shipping), and these are their SALE prices.
It's an interesting novelty and the kids love it, but when the first gas cylinder runs out, the soda cans on the supermarket shelves are going to look really tempting again. It's a shame, here's another great idea marred by poor execution. I can't see that there is anything 'green' about burning up so much in shipping heavy cylinders back and forth across the country.

Kinderville Little Bites Ice Pop Molds (Set of 4) Review

(More customer reviews)Depending on your ice pop recipe, this can be a pretty good mold. I bought a set of these along with the Lekue Silicone Ice Pop Mold, Set of 2 and the Orka Ice Pop Molds, White Base. These are a nice size (about 1 1/2" at the base and a little less than 6" tall) and hold somewhere between 3 1/2 and 4 ounces each. My one big complaint is that they are NOT water-tight. While the instructions tell you to turn them upside down in the freezer, they will definitely leak if you're trying to make juice pops. If you're making fudge pops or anything that has some viscosity to it, they work great. Since I normally do fudgy or creamy pops anyway, I gave this 4 stars. If you're looking for a mold that won't leak at all, choose the Lekue. It's more expensive and takes up a bit more space but it works flawlessly no matter what you're freezing. The Orka mold, which holds half as much as the other two brands and freezes upright, also works great but I would recommend it only if you are looking for a mini pop and have lots of space in your freezer.

I thought I'd buy something less expensive and see how it pans out, and I saw this deal. 2 for the price of 1! It's definetly a great deal, but I do have to say that this isn't made of quality. I even question it's claim to be stainless steel because it looks cheaply made inside, but since it hasn't been proven to not be, I trust it is. After tasting the water that I left alone for more than half a day, the water tasted like metal. All in all, you get what you pay for!

(More customer reviews)We replaced the Brita pitcher that we have used for several years with this one. One thing that bothers me about the Brita filters is how the carbon particles keep escaping into the top compartment of the pitcher. It doesn't hurt anything, but it looks bad to me. Mavea's filters haven't had that problem so far. However, their claim that you don't have to soak the filter is not quite true: you have to run two pitchers of water through a new filter to activate it. This is even more trouble than soaking.
The self-opening and closing lid works well. You never have to remove the lid or flip it up. The only catch is that you have to stop pouring water in when it first starts to close. If you keep filling until it closes completely, water leaks out the top of the lid down the handle and interior sides of the pitcher.
We wanted a larger capacity pitcher than the 40 ounce Brita slim pitcher we were replacing. The 3.5 liter Elemaris XL size fits the bill. Be forewarned that the fully filled pitcher is quite heavy at 9 pounds. The contoured, rubberized grip makes it easier to deal with.

(More customer reviews)I initially bought the Penguin version of this soda maker (same maker, and also sold on Amazon), and it has quickly become the most used appliance in my kitchen next to the microwave. It makes flawless carbonated water and does so in a matter of seconds, from cold tap water without the use of any electricity. The carbonated water it produces lasts far longer in my fridge, in terms of bubbles and fizz, than any carbonated water I've gotten from the store, including Pellegrino.
I use my Penguin soda maker with a PUR 2-Stage water filter PUR DS-1800Z 2-Stage Water Dispenser, which sits in my fridge and dispenses cold water that can go right into the soda maker carafe/bottle.

I was skeptical before buying the soda maker as I could not fathom how such a small product could produce carbonated water almost instantly without electricity. But it surpassed all expectations and continues to amaze me every time I use it, which is basically every day.
I have not used any syrups with the soda maker but typically mix the sparkling water with natural juice, about 20% juice to 80% water, and it tastes amazing and is healthy too.
I saw this classic SodaStream version of the soda maker at a friend's house and he raved about it, so I just purchased it for a friend. It seems to work like the Penguin except that you screw the bottle in at the top to attach it to the machine, rather than slip a carafe into a holder like you do with the Penguin. I think the Penguin design is slightly less cumbersome but I thought the look on this one was more elegant and simple.
In any event, I highly recommend this product or the Penguin, without reservations. There is simply nothing wrong with it - it's perfect in every way and pretty darn ingenious (for me, anyway!).

Why does the carbonating bottle have an expiration date? Since the bottle has to withstand recurring pressure from carbonation, it cannot be used forever. The expiration date on the bottle must be checked and new bottles purchased as soon as the former expires. The bottles must also be replaced if put in the dishwasher, exposed to a heat source, or if they have become scratched. All components of carbonating bottles are recyclable. Check with your local recycling authority for more information.
How do I clean my carbonating bottles? Carbonating bottles may be cleaned in warm water with a bottle brush and regular dish-washing liquid if necessary. Please do not place carbonating bottles in the dishwasher, as exposure to extreme heat can weaken the integrity of the bottles. Bottles stay cleanest when rinsed and then immediately filled with fresh water and returned to your refrigerator. Plus, you'll always have cold water on hand when you're ready for your next bottle of soda.
How long does the soda last before going flat? The hermetic seal on the cap keeps your soda from going flat as quickly as ordinary store-bought beverages. If you make sure to close the cap tightly, and keep the bottle in the refrigerator, your SodaStream soda should remain fizzy and fresh for over a week.
How often will I have to replace my carbonator? On average, the carbonator will make 60 liters of soda, and this number could be more or less depending on the amount of carbonation used when making your drink. A household of four soda drinkers might need to replace a 60-liter carbonator every 6-8 weeks, depending on usage.
Are SodaStream products kosher? SodaStream products are kosher (OU) certified (OU kosher certificate). SodaStream seltzer is kosher for Passover (OUP). Also, please note that your home drink smaker can be used on the Sabbath.

These plates are well made and durable for the toddler set. We have only had them a month but they are holding up perfectly to the abuse he gives them and dishwasher washing. If they were microwave safe they would have gotten 5 stars.

Rubbermaid 3117RDSPA Litterless Juice Boxes Review

(More customer reviews)I have four children and they pack lunches often. I love the convenience of juice boxes, but hate the waste they create. I originally purchased two of the Rubbermaid Litterless Juice Box several years ago. One was lost (one child is notorious for that) and the other one is still going strong. They do not leak no matter what position they end up in in the lunch box. I have since purchased other brands only to be discouraged and disgusted when I have to clean juice or milk off of anything and everything in the lunch box and backpack it was housed in. I cannot locate these in my local stores and may end up ordering from Amazon. As for the straws becoming worn, I didn't have that problem. However, there was an insert in the product that told where to order extra straws for replacement. I also wash this product in the dishwasher. I put the bottle on the top shelf and the lid in the silverware basket. I always wash the straws by hand as they may get lost and melted in the dishwasher.
