Squeezo Strainer Review

Squeezo Strainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased my squeezo 3 on a garage sale and used it for the first time this year. What a easy piece to work with. All metal you know it will last. All I had to do was quarter the apples and cook till soft and run them through. This worked so well, the kids even joined in. It at times would start pushing the sauce out of the scrap end, but I removed the screen and cleaned it and we started again.

The Squeezo Strainer made by Best Products today is the same as the old Garden Way Squeezo Strainer later made by Lemra Products. Made the same as it was 25-30 years ago and still made in the USA. The Squeezo is made to last a lifetime and is designed to get the most juice and puree with the least amount of effort. In a short-period of time, the Squeezo can turn a large harvest into juices, sauces, jams and jellies that can be canned or purees that can be frozen for later use. Great for making baby food too! No peeling or coring is necessary! Simply place your tomatoes, berries, steamed apples or vegetables in the 2 ½ quart hopper, push the fruit or vegetables into the Squeezo with the wooden plunger, and turn the handle . . . then watch as the sauce and juice pours down the drain tray into your bowl, free of seeds and skins! The seeds and skins are discharged into a separate bowl. No Plastic Parts to Stain or Retain Odors! The "All Metal" Squeezo has a die-cast aluminum scroll and an aluminum hopper, so it will not discolor, lose its shape or retain odors. The only non-metal parts are a rubber gasket and nylon bushing. All parts are replaceable.

Norpro "The Original" Berry Screen Review

Norpro The Original Berry Screen
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have nothing bad to say about the product itself, however, the Norpro "Sauce Master (model 1951)" is poorly designed and I wouldn't buy it again; there are just too many flaws. The bottom of the "squirt guard tray" (the plastic discharge chute that the juice flows down to a collection bowl) is exactly 2 1/2" above the surface of what the body is clamped to. Makes it difficult and messy to dump the juice into a larger container. There is a gap of 1 1/2" to 2" at the back end of the standard spiral under the hopper, and because it is the spiral action that moves the matter being sauced or juiced into the spiral, all of the matter that is in the gap never moves into the spiral. Then there is the problem with the refuse falling into the sauce or juice as the discharge frequently falls into the "squirt guard tray". The discharge end of the screen makes it extremely difficult placing anything other than a small shallow bowl under the "squirt guard tray". If you look at the "220 Food Strainer and Sauce Maker" by Back to Basics (which is highly rated), you'll see that they have a clear plastic extension that attaches to the small end of the screen allowing the placement of the refuse bowl a good distance from the collection bowl, and moreover, it appears that the bottom of their "squirt guard tray" is higher off the surface that the body is clamped to, allowing for a larger and deeper bowl to collect the juice and pulp. The 2 1/2" clearance of the Norpro unit is a serious limiting factor in how much juice or pulp you can collect before dumping without spilling. I also purchased a grape spiral at the same time I purchased the berry screen and there is the same problem with the gap at the back end under the hopper as the grape spiral is just a standard spiral that has been sawed off at the smaller end. The Back to Basics unit is about $20 more than the Norpro unit, but price shouldn't be the deciding factor; get the better unit.

Roma Food/Veg Strainer Review

Roma Food/Veg Strainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have used this Roma Vegetable Strainer for making apple sauce twice. Previously I have used the Victorio strainer (very nice and sturdy, but no longer available) and Back to Basics (stronger than the Roma in my opinion, but not as good as the Victorio - it had a lot of parts to lose and was not rust resistant). The Roma is easy to put together and seems to be rust resistant, but is weak, flimsy, unstable, and doesn't hold on my counter well with either the suction or the clamp.Things I like about the Roma Strainer:
* Pieces attach easily without nuts and bolts
* Seem to be rust resistant (The Back-to-Basics strainer that I bought 15 years ago had some parts that would rust)
* Plastic cone that takes the waste (seeds, core and skin) away is farther from the sauce dispenser, making it easier to have various shapes of bowls.Things I dislike about the Roma Strainer:
* The suction cup does not hold on my smooth quartz counter-top. Nice try, but it doesn't work.
* I have a bull-nose (rounded edge) to my counter-top so the clasp doesn't work very well either - it isn't long enough to reach around the bull-nose. So, it starts wiggling fairly quickly and isn't very stable, with no way to attach it more firmly.
* The handle is much harder to turn than the old Victorio (purchased 30 years ago) or Back-to-basics (purchased 16 years ago) strainers I have previously used. As I turn the handle, the vertical support seems to wobble or bend a bit, as though it isn't very strong.
* The handle seems a bit flimsy.
* Turning the handle is stiffer with more resistance than with the other strainers I have used before. (You tire more quickly.
* I have to run the waste product through 2 x as there is a lot of good applesauce that goes out with it.
The materials and workmanship are poorer quality. Some of the features (fewer parts to get lost) are nicer. Overall, though, my experience is that it is not nearly as good or as easy to use as the other strainers I have used in the past.

just used the "back to basics 220 strainer" and the results were wonderful
the machine is well built, and the instructions were made designed the way you could follow them easily. most products i buy, the instructions do not have empathy for the user who must assemble and use the product.
it worked great on the tomatoes. the seeds, peels and core came out the "discard end" and the pure "pulp juice" came out the front. i processed 200 tomatoes without a problem. bang for the buck, you can't beat the production this machine will give you the tomato season

KitchenAid FVSFGA Fruit/Vegetable Strainer and Food Grinder for Stand Mixers Review

KitchenAid FVSFGA Fruit/Vegetable Strainer and Food Grinder for Stand Mixers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This gizmo makes the shortest work of making applesauce you ever imagined. You slice the apples, cook in a large pan with a small amount of water until they are soft. Then you push the apple mush, skins, seeds, core, stems, etc. in the top of the food grinder, and out the sieve part comes pure applesauce, out the end, comes the seeds, skin and stem. It takes maybe 10 minutes to process a 16qt pot of cooked apples.
I usually get every burner on my stove going, heat the pots of apples, process the mush into sauce, then can the lot. The canning part takes the longest.
Anyway if you can apple sauce, you need this tool.

Victorio VKP250 Model 250 Food Strainer and Sauce Maker Review

Victorio VKP250 Model 250 Food Strainer and Sauce Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the best thing in the kitchen for home processing of fruits and vegetables. Bought it for tomatoes to make sauce and juice, but after reading booklet found out other uses such as raspberry juice (we use for homemade ice cream) I used to strain the berries through cheese cloth and clean pantyhose to get out seeds, but with this not only do i get clean juice but more of it as you can reprocess the "waste" several times. I would highly recommend this item. Save yourself the trouble and just buy the extra screens when you purchase the base kit.

KitchenAid FVSP Fruit and Vegetable Strainer Parts for Food Grinder Review

KitchenAid FVSP Fruit and Vegetable Strainer Parts for Food Grinder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this attachment to go along with the food grinder attachment (sold separately.) Wow - I can't believe how quickly I can make fresh applesauce. I simmer quartered apples - seeds, cores, peels, and all - until tender, then send them through the strainer. In minutes, I have fresh, hot applesauce. The refuse is expelled through the end and into another bowl, so you never have to worry about all that peeling and coring.
Tomato sauce? Just as easy. Fresh quartered tomatoes go in one end; the juice/pulp and the seeds come out separately. After that, it's only a matter of cooking the sauce down.
The strainer is a great addition to my kitchen.

Oxo Good Grips 3-Inch Mini Strainer Review

Oxo Good Grips 3-Inch Mini Strainer

I used to have a very cheap tea strainer and the problem with it was that the handle was heavier than the bowl so I had to use one hand to keep it in place while I poured with the other hand. This one is balanced so it does not tip.

Handy for straining pulp from lemon juice and dusting baked goods with sugar, this mini strainer from Oxo Good Grips is small but sturdy with smart details. Made from stainless steel, the strainer's mesh bowl is also fine enough for loose tea and larger spices. The bowl is rimmed in stainless steel for durability, and its double-rod stainless-steel handle is strong and comfortable, thanks to a soft non-slip grip. Easy to balance on prep bowls or use with one hand, the strainer measures 3 inches in diameter and cleans up in the dishwasher. Linden Sweden-Jonas of Sweden 18/10 Stainless Steel Conical Strainer, 5-1/4 Inch Review

Linden Sweden-Jonas of Sweden 18/10 Stainless Steel Conical Strainer, 5-1/4 Inch
Average Reviews:

This strainer is great looking and extremely durable. It is expensive but the quality of it is great. This strainer will fit over bowls, pots and if you have a double sink like I do you can hang it over the sink. I really like that. I made a strawberry mixture to put over cheesecake and biscuit shortcake using 2lbs of strawberries. The mixture accumulated a lot of juice after sitting for a while and I did not want all that juice so I put the entire 2lbs of cut up strawberries in this strainer and there was still room left. I was really impressed to see over a cup of juice come through this strainer before I pressed on the berries. I was able to stir the berries without any problem. It is rather deep so you have to use deep bowl or deep pot if you want to keep what ever you're straining. I am going to get the larger 10" size too. If you don't mind spending a few extra dollars, this is a great conical strainer for many uses that should last a very long time as long as you dry it thoroughly after washing. I would recommend this to any serious cook.

Not a mesh chinois at all. It's a China cap; a solid metal cone with holes stamped into it.
It's well made, solid, and beautiful. Good piece of equipment.
But don't be fooled by the picture - I think it's the low resolution of the photo that makes it look like this has a mesh screen, like a chinois.
But it doesn't.

Oxo Stainless Steel Strainer, Double Rod Review

Oxo Stainless Steel Strainer, Double Rod
Average Reviews:

I am a foodie and as such, I own quite a few strainers. This is the first Good Grips strainer I've purchased and although I love almost everything Oxo makes, I was still surprised at the size, quality and fineness of the mesh on this one.
Do your math, this is a HUGE strainer compared to most hand-held strainers, but the mesh is quite fine and yet sturdy at the same time.
It's without a doubt the best strainer I've purchased anywhere. I hung it on a hook because it's too big for my various utensil crocks, but I find myself reaching for it even for pasta, for which I'd normally use a colander.
Considering the 4 for 3 deal going on right now, it was a superb value, as well.
I intend to buy the smaller versions, as well, to replace my older strainers.
Oxo seems to make their products better and better all the time. I have yet to get a 'dud' from the Good Grips collection.
