(More customer reviews)I live in central Georgia where wasps and bees are always a problem in the spring, summer, and fall. I have tried many traps and sprays and this trap works the best by far. This is the easiest to use and lasts for many years before you'll need to replace it. You'll be able to catch many of those stinging creatures with no harmful effects to the environment. You will however need a shepherd hook to hang the trap. You'll have to experiment with different baits as well. In the spring and summer, i use apple juice and with some table sugar. In the fall, i usually use cheap beer. I am constantly cleaning out the trap for wasps, hornets, flies, and other flying pests. This is a good trap for the price. I haven't found anything better. For 2010, I've only put it up for 3 days and have caught around 20 wasps and yellow jackets in one trap alone.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this product at the local Lowe's store thinking it would catch a few wasps. The first week, the bees and wasps literally disappeared from the area and i didn't catch a thing. After the attractants wore off and the water evaporated, i put apple juice in the top compartment and peanut butter in the bottom and caught about 15-20 wasps in one day and even caught a carpenter bee in the top portion of the trap. I've been averaging 2-5 wasps a day. Don't waste your money on their refills, just use juice in the top compartment and meat or protein in the bottom and you'll save a bundle. Had i not paid $14 for this, i would have dump it and built me a homemade trap using a 1 liter bottle.

(More customer reviews)This product worked so well that I had to dump all of the yellow jackets out because there was no room left for the new ones to drown! Seriously the surface of the bait liquid was covered with bodies and the new Yellow Jackets would just sit on top of the old dead ones and rarely drown. The secret is in the baiting and the time of year. The older the bait the better it works so try not to throw out your bait when you need to empty your bottle. My wife and kids love sitting and watching the yellow jackets fly in and get stuck. That's how fast it works!A little YellowJacketOlogy:
During spring and early summer these things feed on bugs and other sources of protein. They take this protein back to their hive and feed it to the larve which in turn secrete a sugary substance as waste. The older Yellow Jackets (YJs) feed on this waste. During the late summer all of the larve are grown and hunting/feeding on their own so there is no source of sugar in the colony. The older YJs start to scavenge around human garbage, picnics, etc looking for sugars. My guess is that the negative reviewers were trying to use these baits earlier in the season. Next spring I will try this again but with more meat since that is what the YJs will be looking for at the time and update my review.
Bait:
1 cup water
1/2 cup juice
2 tbsp sugar
several small pieces of raw ground beef or other raw meat
1-2 drops of mild dish detergent (To break the surface tension of the water for rapid drowning)
