Consequently, we have LOTS of mosquitos, and it is a potential problem because we have a great patio and spend lots of time there. I say potential problem because of the effectiveness of ouir Sawyers Family Mosquito Repellent products in keeping mosquitos away from us. I have also used it hunting and fishing and it is just as effective on gnats, flies and other flying insects.

(More customer reviews)I pretreated all the clothing I took with me to Haiti with this spray and had no problems with bugs the whole time. I would highly recommend this product to anyone going to areas where malaria would be an issue as well as highly bug inhabited places in the US. I wouldn't use this everyday, but for special occasions - it's a must have. Just make sure you wear gloves when applying and apply exactly as instructed.

Not only does this product repel insects, but will actually kill ticks, mosquitoes, chiggers, mites and more than 55 other kinds of insects. Sawyer Permethrin repellent is for use on your clothing, tents and other gear. A single application lasts through 6 washings. Permethrin is odorless when dry. During the drying process it tightly bonds with the fibers of the treated garment. It will not stain or damage clothing, fabrics, plastics, finished surfaces, or any of your outdoor gear. Try our easy-to-use treatment methods: military-style soak system and the new 24 oz trigger spray. These methods provide protection from mosquitoes and ticks through 6 washings. Permethrin clothing treatments, when applied following Directions for Use, have been determined to have "spatial repellency" against mosquitoes. This means that mosquitoes will swarm around you, but not light on your treated clothing and bite. Also use an EPA registered repellent, such as the Sawyer microencapsulated Controlled Release 20-percent DEET, on all exposed skin for further protection from biting and blood sucking mosquitoes. The combination of Permethrin on clothing and DEET repellent on skin forms an "Insect Repellent System." Sawyer SP713 Premium Maxi-Deet Insect Repellent, 3-Ounce Review

(More customer reviews)PROS This worked great in Belize. We spent three nights in the Jungle without a single mosquito or bug bite of any kind. During this time we went on hikes thru the jungle and were in and on rivers as well as caves. The mosquitos were swarming around the other hikers. Several hikers' legs were covered in bites and swelled by the end of the trails. The only bites we got were on the plane ride home because we didn't have any bug spray on. Who knew there'd be mosquitos on the plane too. We also used SAWYER PREMIUM CLOTHING INSECT REPELLENT on our clothes which helped with any bugs that would land directly on your clothes or hat like ticks--kills them dead. awesome.
CONS The 100 deet does feel hot on your skin at first but that passes. I don't recommend it on your face (it'll make your lips numb--that can't be healthy:) Also don't apply it near woodwork or set the bottle on wood work because it takes the finish off the wood. Deet can be hazardous to your health especially prolonged exposure and on children.
But for a short period of time in extreme conditions to avoid more deadly parasites I think it was well worth it!! Malaria, Dengue fever, Filariasis, leishmaniasis, onchocerciasis (River blindness), and American trypanosomiasis (Chagas' disease) are all diseases carried by insects that also occur in Central America. Myiasis (botfly) is endemic in Central America and thats the last thing I wanted to bring home with me on vacation if I could help it. Thanks Sawyer.
Belize was beautiful and the most amazing vacation. The 100 Deet took the fear of disease off my mind.
