(More customer reviews)These sprouting trays are simply the best. With little effort I grow a wide variety of delicious and fresh sprouts in my kitchen. The trays stack up nicely and I have six of them, one on top of the other. They require little space. Believe it or not, it's like having a small farm in the house that produces an impressive amount and array of "fresh vegatables", albeit in sprout form. The sprouts grown in these trays stay fresh and never develop an unpleasant smell. They taste crisp, are pleasant to eat and have become the mainstay in my daily intake of vegetables in my diet. I clean my trays outside with a spray nozzle attached to my garden hose. This makes cleaning quick and easy, then I rinse them in the sink with some bleach in the water to sterilize them before growing a fresh crop. The trays are foolproof and have changed the way I eat. With the price of vegetables rising in the supermarkets, I've found these trays to be a great money saver - to say nothing of the superior nutrition that eating sprouts provide. I would highly recommend them to anyone!

I like it because it's creamy, sharp, sweet and has chunks of tomato in it. I don't know what else to say except that I've had this ever since I was a kid and it tastes really great. If you want to dress it up you can add some cognac or croutons in it, but other than that, it's great as is.

Organic Sprouting Seeds Onion Seeds 1/2 Lb Review

(More customer reviews)I've found that Onion Sprouts are one of the fussiest to grow....no matter Who's seed you buy...mainly because they take AT LEAST two weeks to reach proper eating size...as well as they tend to hold onto the seed hull but its not going to hurt you to eat them.
I normally soak for about 6-8 hours then drain. What I DON'T do is always rinse them every day...it really depends on how much moisture I still see in the sprouter..if I see beads of moisture I might skip a day. Then the next day I will give them a 5 or 10 minute soak instead of a quick rinse.
The flavor of them is worth the time and effort.

(More customer reviews)Shipment arrived fast and in a nice, practical bucket. The wheat berries sprouted perfectly and grew quickly, thick and tall! I was a bit surprised as I'd never done anything like this before, and fully expected a few trial runs before getting it right. I used Ann Wigmore's sprouting technique, and the resulting juice was hearty and dark, though still sweet and great. Highly recommended! After a few trials, though, I would say be careful not to under water. I worried about molds and fungus on the third or fourth batch (tiny spots had begun showing up) and the grass suffered for it. More water means more, better grass.

To sprout your own seeds follow these easy steps
1) Soak the seeds overnight in warm water
2) Place the seeds in a strainer
- place a saucer under the strainer
- place a 1 lbs weight on the seeds, this is very important for quick growth, I usually full up a bowl with water to use a s a weight
- place a towel over the strainer to keep out light
- place in a well ventilated place
3)Rinse the seeds 3 times a day, and let them drip dry
4) after 3-4 days the seeds will push up the weight and will be bean sprouts
5) when they begin to grow leaves they are done, and place in the refrigerator to halt growth.
- 1 ounce seeds, makes 1 lbs sprouts

(More customer reviews)I do freezer jams using agar to set them instead of pectin because it costs a lot less, and we go through a lot of jam in our household. Using agar to set the jellies means that I can use a lot less sugar and get something like a fruit spread.
This is a reliable product, just be careful not to get any water in the jar, measure out what you need, then seal it back up. If you're making a recipe you usually use gelatin with, use less agar, start with half the amount called for, then increase as necessary. Agar gels up very firmly if you're not working with high acidic fruits and it's pretty stable once it's gelled even at room temperature.
Recipes for kanten call for agar frequently, and agar makes a good vegan substitute for gelatin, but it's not as nutritious as gelatin. It is a decent source of dietary fiber though.
I still use gelatin for some recipes, and agar for others. Agar doesn't have the faint smell that gelatin has so for a lot of desserts, it is preferable. For a good dessert book that uses agar as an ingredient, I suggest Q&E Chilled Desserts from the Japanese Kitchen (Quick and Easy Series).

(More customer reviews)These have a very hot taste, like very hot radishes. Great to put on otherwise bland sandwiches. They sprout fast, and keep well in the fridge. Not all sprouts are created equal, and these smaller seeds seem to work the best (also broccoli, alfalfa, etc). After having sprouts for awhile, I use less and less lettuce. And you have your own supply always brewing. Home grown sprouts are crispier and juicier than the store bought variety. Yum.

(More customer reviews)The hemp bag is well constructed and easy to use. The problem I had was that my sprouts (Mung Bean) stayed incredibly small. I am sprouting beans from the same batch in a mason jar and by day two, their size is more than twice that of day seven in the bag. Both batches were rinsed on the same schedule. The jar is harder to drain, but given the difference in the end product, I think it is worth the extra work. I haven't tried the lentils or the peas yet.
