Kinderville Little Bites Ice Pop Molds (Set of 4) Review

Kinderville Little Bites Ice Pop Molds (Set of 4)
Average Reviews:

Depending on your ice pop recipe, this can be a pretty good mold. I bought a set of these along with the Lekue Silicone Ice Pop Mold, Set of 2 and the Orka Ice Pop Molds, White Base. These are a nice size (about 1 1/2" at the base and a little less than 6" tall) and hold somewhere between 3 1/2 and 4 ounces each. My one big complaint is that they are NOT water-tight. While the instructions tell you to turn them upside down in the freezer, they will definitely leak if you're trying to make juice pops. If you're making fudge pops or anything that has some viscosity to it, they work great. Since I normally do fudgy or creamy pops anyway, I gave this 4 stars. If you're looking for a mold that won't leak at all, choose the Lekue. It's more expensive and takes up a bit more space but it works flawlessly no matter what you're freezing. The Orka mold, which holds half as much as the other two brands and freezes upright, also works great but I would recommend it only if you are looking for a mini pop and have lots of space in your freezer.

My molds came the other day...
I LOVE these molds!
I love that I can pull one out at a time.
I love that I can wash one mold and refill it when I'm ready.
I love that DS is eating fruit pops when he wouldn't eat pieces of fruit.
Yes, they're more than the ones I got at the dollar store... but totally worth it! I was worried (until I got them) the molds would be unsteady in the tray... they're totally steady and I expect these will last many summers.

This is a great product, popsicles come out great! and its nice to have the base seperate so you can use one at a time. Only difficulty is getting on the lids; my husband and I found that if you soak the lids in hot water it makes it easier to put them on.
I would reccomend this product to a friend!

Traditional Freezer Pop Maker Review

Traditional Freezer Pop Maker

Look carefully at the picture above. There's a popsicle tray, then a metal top that goes over it with small slits for popsicle sticks, which are all resting out of the tray at slightly different angles. (In real life, it's impossible to get them to stay even that straight.) So, to skip to the punchline, when you try to remove the metal tray, you can't, since the sticks aren't straight, and aren't all slanted in the same direction. Pulling out the tray ends up dislodging all of the popsicles at the same time. It breaks some, and it's an enormous hassle. This is an awful product that, clearly, was never tested before being put on the market.

Norpro Ice Pop Maker Review

This product is poorly designed. I am very sorry I bought it.
The metal top has slits of the precise dimensions of the popsicle sticks, but once the sticks are in liquid, they expand, of course, which makes them impossible to pull out of the lid!!!! The lid, in turn, contracts, squeezing the sticks even further, so to get them out, you have to strip the sticks through the metal holes. I am surprised that no leeway was built into this part of the product, and that the materials chosen, metal and wood, while nice and recyclable, were not more carefully evaluated for performance in changing temperatures. Perhaps the mold can be used without the lid, but then the sticks will fall over until the liquid freezes.

Tovolo 80-8003Y Yellow Groovy Pop Molds Review

Tovolo 80-8003Y Yellow Groovy Pop Molds
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've used several ice pop molds over the years, and up until now I thought Tupperware's pop molds were by far the best. These Tovolo molds lack the ability to replace either the cap or the handle (they are one molded piece) but the plastic used in the cap/handle and the mold is easily the best I've ever seen for pop molds. It's too early to predict how well these will actually hold up after dozens of freezings and thawings, but if the quality of materials is any indication, they should last a long, long time.
One month later:
While I still think these are overall the best pop molds I've ever used, I did discover one thing about them (the hard way, naturally): don't drop them on anything hard (i.e., a tile floor) after they've been in the freezer for a day or more. The yellow caps/lids tend to get brittle after freezing, and they will crack and/or break. The opaque molds don't appear to have this issue, although I don't plan to intentionally test their break-resistance threshold. I glued mine back together with Barge Cement. It's not pretty but it's functional.

Kidco Healthy Snack Frozen Treat Trays Review

Kidco Healthy Snack Frozen Treat Trays
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I was looking for pop molds I found these "Frozen Treat Trays." There are some advantages and some disadvantages to this type of mold. First, you can freeze basically anything in them and I've had good luck freezing homemade juices including lemonade and juices I make in my juicer. The caps on this brand have permanent plastic sticks in them so you don't have to buy wooden sticks all the time. They also sort of catch some of the drips although don't count on it.
The disadvantage is that you can't just pull one ice pop out of a tray you have to put the entire tray in a bowl of warm water to release the pops. I found them nearly impossible to pull out without doing this and setting them in warm water for thirty seconds usually does the trick. Then you can just put all the ice pops in a plastic ziplock freezer bag for storage.
Here are the two "juicing" recipes I've used lately. There is a enough juice for the ice pops and a few cups of juice leftover to enjoy:
Recipe 1:
1 pound strawberries
1 pineapple, peeled
2 Pink Lady apples, unpeeled
2 oranges, peeled
Recipe 2:
1 pineapple, peeled
2 oranges, peeled
2 apples, unpeeled
1 (6-ounce) container blackberries
1 cup grapes
For both recipes cut the fruit to fit your juicer and juice. Pour the juice into your frozen treat trays. There are really unlimited ways you can make juice so you can have fun experimenting all summer long.
You would think this would come with a nice recipe book but only three recipes are included. You can mix yogurt with fruit in your blender or freeze applesauce, chocolate milk, egg nog or puddings.
While these are fun for kids adults will love them too. I went out walking in the heat and it was so good to have some ice pops ready on my return.

We have had this mold for a year now and it has made us many terrific popsicles. The popsicles come out of the mold easily (we usually run it under some hot water for a few seconds) and always with their stick intact, plus, they are a nice shape. The kids love them and I love that I can throw an apple, a banana, some frozen berries and a little milk into a blender and, for pennies, they are eating fresh, unpasteurized organic popsicles. You can't beat that!

Progressive International Freezer Pop Sticks Review

Progressive International Freezer Pop Sticks
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Every summer we hear the sound of the ice cream trucks as they weave their way through our neighborhood, and it can get a bit costly over a week if we indulge in the frozen treats offered by them. It was for that reason that we began to look into making our own popsicles and frozen treats.
These Progressive International Freezer Pop Sticks offer an excellent start for us to make our frozen treats on a stick, and it's an excellent way to create concoctions that are not only easy to do, but fun for all involved. Homemade popsicles can save money, reduce the trash that we toss, and will help to save resources. They are fun to make, as kids love to experiment with different combinations.
But a few words of caution: please note that there is a big difference between the Craft Sticks found here and the ones being reviewed. Craft sticks are just for use with crafts, while the ones in this review are essentially a food-grade item, though they can be used for crafts as well... think of these as being dual-purpose.
You can make your own frozen pops using waxed paper cups or a mold, such as the Progressive International Freezer Pop Maker which will mold then into a more convenient and traditional shape. Using one of these also reduces the chance of spillage accidents in the freezer, which is something that many of us learn the hard way. The main thing to remember is to keep it simple, and have fun sharing the experience.
Here are a couple of our favorite easy recipes, proven by trial and error:
Quick & Easy Creamsicles
1 (6 oz.) can frozen Florida orange juice concentrate
1 (6 oz.) can water
1 pint vanilla ice cream, softened, (or vanilla yogurt)
Mix ingredients in a blender or with a power hand mixer for 30-45 seconds. Pour into molds, insert sticks, and freeze. Makes about seven, 2.5 oz. creamsicles.
Strawberry-Orange Popsicles
1 quart Florida orange juice
2 cups strawberries, frozen or fresh
3 tablespoons sugar (omit if using sweetened strawberries)
1 cup vanilla yogurt or softened vanilla ice cream
Blend till smooth or not-so-smooth, depending on preference. Pour into molds and freeze. Makes about twelve 2.5 oz. popsicles
Note: with any of the above, add the popsicle sticks after your creation has partially set for about 15 minutes.
We're looking for new recipes to try, and especially for a really good recipe for mango popsicles. If you have any, please feel free to leave them in the comments.
Homemade popsicles are cool (and no pun intended) because you can make them healthy, organic, and with the type of ingredients you like.
